Activities 42 funded projects between 2013 and 2015 totalling approximately $42M. Funded projects are spread across Governance, Building Blocks, Research Coordination Networks, Conceptual Designs, and Integrative Activities.

What is EarthCube?EarthCube began in 2011 as a joint initiative between the National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for Geosciences (GEO) and the Division of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure (ACI).

EarthCube is broadly interdisciplinary, serving the Earth and Environmental Sciences, developing technologies that serve the entire scientific community.

EarthCube envisions a dynamic, community-driven cyberinfrastructure that supports standards for interoperability, infuses advanced technologies to facilitate interdisciplinary research, and helps educate scientists in the emerging practices of digital scholarship, data and software stewardship, and open science.3

Leadership CouncilThe Leadership Council is the elected voice of the EarthCube community, setting the strategic direction for EarthCube and making decisions critical to the success of EarthCube with input from the community and in consultation with NSF.

Council of Data FacilitiesThe CDF provides a voice to the member data facilities, identifies & endorses standards & best practices and helps foster innovation through collaborative projects.

Science CommitteeThe Science Committee maintains the connection between academic and technology communities, ensuring end-user requirements are prioritized.

Tech/Architecture CommitteeThe TAC facilitates the development of the technology that is part of EarthCube, including stewardship of the ongoing system of systems.

Engagement TeamThe ET is responsible for proactively reaching out to the EarthCube community to encourage involvement in EarthCube, and serves as a conduit for feedback from the community to the governing body.

Liaison TeamThe LT acts as a liaison to cyber-initiatives, collaborations, agencies, associations, and other efforts and programs external to the NSF core constituency of academic geoscientists.
