This year’s edition of the Earth Garden Festival returns with a 3-day festival starting on Friday 6th June until Sunday 8th June 2014 at Ta’ Qali National Park.

Last year Earth Garden reached the highest growth so far; in terms of attendance, artists’ participation, performers, organisation and production. This festival remains the local green finger festival that voices care for the environment through Arts, Music and Culture, in a holistic way, attracting both locals and foreigners to take part in a unique experience on the island of Malta. Thus, yet again we teamed up with the Ministry for Sustainable Development, the Environment and Climate Change and together we have selected the environmental theme for this year’s edition of the Festival to be:

Our environment, Your well-being.

Earth Garden Festival 2014Not just an event, but an experience.

The theme goes hand in hand with the Festival’s celebration of innovation and creativity that brings together persons of all ages, who want a better way of life in harmony with the environment around them.

Earth Garden 2013 was bigger and better in all aspects: “Our Festival goers have responded well to last year’s edition despite being the first time that required an entrance fee. In return, we delivered on our promise of Earth Garden being an experience, not just an event.” - Howard Keith, Organisation Team.

The 2014 Earth Garden will again feature two main areas: The Greek Theatre Main Stage and the Open Village. Same as previous years, this edition we will be growing in terms of areas, a larger footprint for the camping site, longer hours, over 50 plus acts, increased number of stands and an introduction of a new area.

Greek TheatreThe main stage. The Greek Theatre, synonymous with sold out events, will host three music concerts over three nights. The highlight of this year’s edition will surely be the closing concert on Sunday 8th June, featuring local bands Beangrowers and Brikkuni. On Friday 6th June, Xirka Rock will take the audience to a musical journey of the best of all Xirka Editions and a Woodstock Special. On Saturday 7th, the Greek Theatre will turn on the lights for local band Airport Impressions, who will be singing their new album “Mariette” live, for the first time.

It may be a cliché, but there really is a particular chemistry within Airport Impressions; a connection that goes beyond just making music that has been a major catalyst in singling out the defining characteristics that their music bears. Favoured by the band even more than working in the studio, is playing to a live audience where it all comes together for Airport Impressions.

Their latest album ‘Mariette’ perfectly captures the band’s musical journey to date; its twelve songs reflect the versatility that has evolved over the years. Embracing pop and rock as much as it does country and indie folk, its songs blend all of these elements to find their own place on this record.

The band will play the full album ‘Mariette’ live for the first time at Earth Garden.

Saturday 7th June | Doors open at 20.15

Airport Impressions

Xirka Rock 7 at Earth Garden, the audience will enjoy a special musical journey of the best of all Xirka Editions and a Woodstock Special. The best of Xirka will feature some of the special moments throughout the previous six editions, and those who attended all six of them, know that there were many! A Woodstock special will also be organized to go with the Earth Garden vibe, paying tribute to the special moments that took place at the legendary Woodstock festival in 1969.

The core band will feature Peter Borg - guitarist from Red Electrick and Ira Losco, Wayne Camilleri - guitarist from Big Band Brothers and KOI, Mark Attard - Keyboardist from Fakawi, Chris Curmi - Bassist from Airport Impressions and Christopher Busuttil - Drummer from Areola Treat and It Came From the Desert.

Malta’s favourite indie-rock pioneers Beangrowers are back to perform their first show in 2014 at Earth Garden. After years of touring over 24 countries and countless venues the three-piece band from St Julians will be gracing us with one of their memorable shows. Fronted by guitarist and singer Alison Galea the band launched their career with the single Astroboy back in 1999. In the last decade they supported various known bands such as Stereophonics, The Tindersticks, Deus, Elbow, Philip Boa, Fun Loving Criminals and others.

All Beangrowers members have constantly worked and been part of various other music projects but decided to regroup in 2014 for their live show at Earth Garden and to begin working on their new EP scheduled for beginning of 2015.

Beangrowers

‘Brikkuni’ is an uncompromising contemporary Maltese pop band treading the fine line between art and kitsch. They have been active for the past six years and have two releases under their belt. Their first, ‘Kuntrabanda’ has already worked its way toward cult status on our island. ‘Trabokk’, the band’s sophomore effort released in the winter of 2012 cemented their reputation as, possibly, the only local act capable of infiltrating the mainstream whilst staying true to its independent roots and no holds barred attitude.

Brikkuni’s major influences are troubadour Fabrizo De Andre and film-makers Pier Paolo Pasolini and Emir Kusturica.

The Open Village, the heart of Earth Garden, as per previous editions will host the Roots Stage, the Electronic Sphere, the Camping Area, the Why Not? Jamming Area, Ethnic Market, Holistic Area, the V.18 Art Square, The Enchanted Forest, The Smiley Fun Park and a Moroccan Shisha Chill Out area.

TRIBALITribali need no introduction with Earth Garden’s audience. This group of Maltese musicians came together to celebrate their love of world music whilst placing great emphasis on ethnic rhythms. Tribali incorporate the beauty and pathos of music from the orient. Earth Garden closing act will surely leave the audience with the right flavour and start the nostalgia for the next edition of the Festival.

Artists Highlights A hint on the line-up at the Open Village.

The Caravana Sun boys are known for their deep connection with their fans and audiences; almost as if they are playing to a room full of their closest friends, with the crowd happily dancing away and singing along to every lyric. We are sure that this same connection will be made with Earth Garden’s audience.

CARAVANA SuN

Every band has a story to tell and legendary cult band, The Rifffs are definitely a band worthy of that story. From landing a record deal with Alternative music distributed by Pinnacle, to having their debut single ‘Dance Music for the 80s Depression’ played by the world famous DJ John Peel. Earth Garden will surely embrace the rhythms of this cult band.

THE RIFFFSConsisting of musicians hailing from Malta, Germany, Spain, France, and as far as Chile and Canada, Mana Tapu lends a uniquely diverse flavour to their music, which swings from reggae, to ska, to funk, to folk, to rock and back again. And with their reputation for putting on some of the most lively and infectiously fun concerts on the island!. Chances are the audience will be singing and dancing along before they even know it!
