Indianola Community Backpacks for Hunger The Ministerial Association of Indianola is implementing a new outreach to families in our community. It is our desire to help meet some of the needs of children easing the burden parents are dealing with during these tough economic times. We are offering a bag of food for children to be sent home with them on Friday afternoon. The bags will be filled with six entrees and two snacks that are child friendly and easy to prepare. If this is something that would be a benefit to your child, please contact us at 515-961-5755 or 515-333-8374 so that we can get your child’s information and get them started in the program. All information will be kept confidential. This service does not carry over from year to year, you must call to register each year.

Dear Laura Ingalls Wilder Families,

This year the staff is focused on improving overall attendance at Laura Ingalls Wilder. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school--and themselves. First off, we would like to congratulate the many parents and caregivers who make sure their children attend school regularly and are therefore benefiting fully from their educational opportunity.

The Laura Ingalls Wilder staff plan to honor and promote perfect quarterly attendance at our PBIS Quarterly Assemblies. Students who have perfect attendance for the quarter will be given a certificate of accomplishment and have their name put in a drawing for prizes. There will also be an End of the Year Award/Celebration for those students with perfect attendance for the entire year!!

Did you Know?

Starting in Kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school. Missing 10 percent (or about 18 days) can make it harder to learn to read. Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two days every few weeks. Being late to school may lead to poor attendance. Students who do not attend school regularly are more likely to misbehave so others cannot see

that they are finding the work difficult. Frequent absences make it difficult for students to make and keep friends

Tips to help you get to school on time every day! Make sure your child understands why school is important Show your child that you are interested in what they have

done at school Get everything ready the night before school Arrange appointments before or after school or during the

school holidays Set your alarm and your child’s alarm clock. See who can

beat the clock! Catch the bus or set off a little bit earlier if you walk or drop

off.

Thank you so much for helping your child succeed at school by building the habit of good attendance early.

Mrs. Naughton

Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up Information

Dear LIWilder Families: Our student drop off/pick up procedures are designed to maintain a safe and orderly arrival and dismissal for you, our students, and our staff. The following guidelines provide a general awareness to all involved as well as provide information that will help expedite the process. Safety Rules:

Vehicles enter the north side of the drop off/pick up loop and parking. Vehicles leave at the south side. The drop off/pick up loop is one way--from north to south

Vehicles may not be left unattended in the lane from 7:20-7:50 am and 2:45-3:15 pm. If you must leave your vehicle, please use an official parking space.

Listen to school personnel for directions. Always be on the lookout for others. There will be one lane for pick-up/drop-off in the loop. No double and triple parking. Students will not be allowed to go in-between cars to get to their own vehicle for drop off/pick-up. Please

stay in the far right lane.

In Advance of using the drop off/pick up loop:

Obtain your LIW Car Rider Sign to display in the windshield of your car each time you pick up your child. The Car Rider Sign may be picked up in the office.

What is a Car Rider Sign? The Car Rider Sign will be a sheet of red cardstock that is folded in half with the family’s last name

on it as well as grade level(s) of student(s). The family can place it on their dash or rubber band it to their visor.

Student Arrival Directions: All students must be supervised. LIWilder Elementary will provide supervision beginning at 7:15 AM

for bus riders and 7:25 AM for walker/riders. In the drop off/pick up loop, please pull all the way to the southeast corner of the building to unload your

student(s). Please have your student prepared to exit the vehicle at the appropriate time in order to keep traffic

flowing. We encourage students to be IN CLASS at 7:35 AM. They are tardy at 7:45 AM.

Student Dismissal Directions:

Student dismissal is at 2:55. For pick up in the drop off/pick up loop you are encouraged to have a Car Rider Sign displayed. The sign

will assist us in expediting the process. Please pull all the way to the southeast corner of the building to allow us to load the maximum number of

cars at one time. (All students will come from the front of the building). With proper flow, approximately 4-5 cars can pick up at one time, leave and then allow 4-5 more cars to

pick up near the front of the building.

Other available options

If you are needing to park, you may park in the parking spots on the East side of the loop and walk your child to or from the building.

If your child qualifies for transportation services, they may utilize the District’s busing. We ask for your focus and patience each day during drop off/pick up times. Please remember that traffic is always heavier at the start of the school year, so plan your time accordingly. The Indianola Police Department will be prominent during the first few days of school in order to help maintain procedures and traffic We ask for your focus and patience each day during drop off/pick up times.
