EARLY CLOSE EVERY WEDNESDAY AT 2.30PM
Dear Parents and Friends,
VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONSVOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS
Getting our children ready for the commencement of the school year is always hectic and in this rush several parents have forgotten to pay their “School Fees”. You are reminded that we now have EFTPOS facilities to pay this amount. This money goes towards purchasing all those extras that make school life engaging and interesting for your children, extras they are already enjoying. Thank you for paying this amount as soon as possible. The Fee structure is as follows:
Kindergarten $60.00
PP to Year 6 $50.00
PARKINGPARKING
As mentioned in my previous Informers, the response to
my request for parents to park in the designated areas
has been excellent. Unfortunately a few of you are still
parking in prohibited areas. Generally these areas block a
clear vision of the street for our children. This can be
dangerous. Many thanks to these parents for addressing
this matter.
DISAPPOINTING NEWSDISAPPOINTING NEWS
I have just had an emergency meeting with the P&C President and executive who have informed me that the school Friday canteen facility is to close. This is a facility that many of our children have come to enjoy and parents use as a treat.
Several calls for volunteers have gone unnoticed despite the relatively small demand on your time. Of course it is not too late to save our canteen. Please contact me if you are available on Fridays from 8.15 -1.30 PM.
Our regular volunteer Susan McGowan has taken on some paid work and unfortunately is not available on this day. Susan has been a superb asset to our school and although we are sad at her leaving, we wish her well in her new job. Thank you Susan, your children are proud of you and our school thanks you for giving of your time so generously. I would also like to thank Jag Radeski and Helen Baker who have also been wonderful canteen volunteers and supported Susan in every way.
I look forward to hearing from a volunteer or even two or three who can job share this position.
Let’s work together for the common good of our school!

-CONNECT CHOIR EVENT THIS SATURDAY, 6 APRIL-
I am writing to invite your child/children to participate in an out of school choir performance at the Vale Connect Event on Saturday, 6 April. THIS IS TOMORROW. This an event which will showcase local businesses, talent etc and we have the chance to perform a song!
Our performance time is 4.30pm. Any child from Aveley PS is invited to attend, as we’ll be singing a song they all should know, Different People, Different Places. The more children we have, the better! This is the song we all sang together at the Harmony Day assembly. Children are required to wear school uniform and would be expected to arrive 30 minutes prior to our performance time.
If you have any further questions, please contact Chris Spencer at [email protected]

IDEAS FOR DRAWING ATIDEAS FOR DRAWING ATTENTION TO NUMERACY IN TENTION TO NUMERACY IN
DAILY LIFEDAILY LIFE
Respond to children’s ideas by…
• Listening to, and talking with them about the number, shape and size of things in, for example, games, constructions, drawings, rhymes and stories
• Listening to, and talking with them about prices, directions for making things and the shape of materials they are using
• Listening to, and talking with them about which is the better deal when buying things
• Using their ideas and suggestions for planning parties, holidays and day-to-day family routines
• Asking questions like:
How many?
How big is it?
Does it fit?
Which way will I go?
Is it likely to happen?
How much is there?
Will there be enough?
What might happen if…?
Why does…?
How do you know that?
How did you work it out?
If you worked it out another way could you still get the same answer?

VALUES DEVELOPMENTVALUES DEVELOPMENT
Going to Primary School represents the beginning of the child’s entry into the larger society, with all its attendant responsibilities to self and others. This includes the importance of following basic rules, the obligation to respect the rights of others, and a commitment to the general welfare of individuals and the community. In a caring school community, one that embodies core ethical values of kindness, respect, fairness and personal responsibility, children develop their characters by observing, experiencing, being taught and practising these values in their daily lives.
Our PATHS programme gives students the framework to discuss value development in the unit of work dealing with Feelings and Relationships. The different feelings of privacy, hiding and changing feelings, greedy, selfish, generous, malicious, kind, rejected, included, excluded, forgiving and resentful are discussed. These feelings are linked to the feelings that are comfortable and the feelings that are uncomfortable but all are OK feelings to have. Whilst manners is not a feeling word, several lessons about the importance of appropriate manners are given and the difference between manners and feelings are discussed. The importance of good manners, being rude vs being polite, the difference between saying “I’m sorry” and feeling sorry, and so forth play an important part in this unit of work. One of the purposes of this unit is to discover that how we behave has a big impact on how other people feel about us. Having good manner (being polite) is important to making and keeping friendships. Whilst the focus is not on teaching specific manners, instead the emphasis is to encourage children to think about why they behave in the ways that they do. For example, the students will discuss the idea that the way that people act or behave can affect how other people feel. We encourage all staff, students, parents and visitors to the school to demonstrate simple courtesies when dealing with all situations at the school and so providing the appropriate role model for students.

Harmony Day was celebrated on Thursday, 28 of March at
Aveley Primary School. We celebrated with a special
assembly which included an amazing costume parade and
a beautiful rendition of the song, ‘Different People, Different
Places’. The children were beautifully rehearsed and sang
as tunefully as a seasoned choir. The costumes were both
creative and authentic and a big thank you goes out to
parents who laboured hard to sew and collect items that
gave the whole occasion a festive air. Our School Captains
did a fantastic job of presenting the Assembly.
After recess we had a performance by Ancestrais Capoeira
and learnt about the origins of this fantastic martial art/art
form. Every child from K-6, attended the incursion. You are
thanked for your support in this.
Classes also had other activities planned which included the cooking and sharing of delicious food from various countries/cultures. The children in Wattle 14 are to be congratulated for their bread making skills. I was fortunate enough to taste at least five different varieties!
Many thanks to all staff, parents and students for your
support and participation in this important event. The
collage of photos below are a fair sample of the occasion.
Hi Everyone,
We hope everyone had a great Easter break. There are only a couple of reminders this fortnight.
The community Connect Event is taking place this Saturday, 6 April. So please come along as our school choir will be performing around 4.30pm. We will also have a school display in one of the marques promoting our beautiful school so be sure to pop in and say hello.
Please don’t forget the P&C AGM is scheduled for this coming Monday, 8 April at 9am. The meeting venue has been moved to the school library to help accommodate numbers. Also remember to place your payment of $1.00 and registration form in the P&C Box prior to be able to place a vote. We look forward to seeing everyone’s smiling faces.
We are also having a FREE DRESS day on Friday, 12 April. Please remember to bring along your gold coin to participate. It will be collected on the day by your teachers.
As this is the last newsletter for this term, we would like for everyone to keep in mind the dates of May, 9 and 10. Yes even though we have just finished Easter on returning to school for Term Two in the very first week we will be holding a Mother’s Day Stall. The children will be able to come along and purchase a gift for the occasion. We will be placing further details on our Facebook page closer to the event. So remember to keep your eyes open throughout the school holidays.
Finally and unfortunately on a slightly sadder note. Due to changing circumstances and the fact the P&C has had little to NO response in asking for support with volunteers in our canteen duty on a Friday. It is now with a sad heart we have come to the situation where we can no longer continue this service to our students. This Friday, April 5 will be our last day where the children can place school lunch orders.
Thank you to the parents and children who supported us by simply placing their school lunch orders regularly and to the parents who came in occasionally to lend a hand.
On behalf of the P&C I would like to say a very big heartfelt thank you to our main volunteer Susan McGowan and her two regular helpers every week Jag Radeski and Helen Baker for all their generous time, effort and enthusiasm. Your commitment, organisation skills and hard work in allowing our students to have this treat weekly was very much appreciated and certainly never went unnoticed. I am sure the children will miss seeing your happy smiling faces in the canteen from now on. I would also like to wish Susan and her family the greatest success in her future endeavours.
On that note, have a great weekend everyone.
