EAL Welcome Programme An intensive, but fun, introductory programme for new EAL students joining the BSN in September 2014.
This four-day programme will take place in the week before the new school year starts in September.
The programme is specifically designed to
welcome children and students to the BSN
community and provide an opportunity to
familiarise themselves with the BSN school
system. Joining the Welcome Programme will
help to reduce any potential feelings of anxiety
about starting school and will provide an ideal
opportunity to settle in and make friends with
other new BSN students.
The course combines language study with a
variety of activities, including arts and crafts,
dance, sport and cookery.
Tailored to differing levels of English
EAL beginners will be introduced to essential
words and phrases that will help them ease
into their new school environment more
comfortably. Higher level students will also
be encouraged to develop their fluency and
confidence in English.
This should not be seen as a replacement for
the EAL programme students will need to
follow once they start school, but rather an
initial boost to their English language skills.
DatesMonday 1 September to Thursday 4 September
from 9:30 to 15:30.
Age groupsFor children aged 5 to 16. Groups will be based
on age and level.

The programme will be delivered within the JSL
school building, the BSN Language Centre and
the JSL Sports Hall – all of which are based on
our Leidschenveen Campus.

PLUS! Language Workshops for newly arrived
parentsThere is a strong sense of community amongst
our parents, staff and students, many of whom
have moved here leaving their friends, families
and colleagues behind.
We appreciate that those first few weeks in
a new country can be difficult and, at times,
overwhelming. As parents are such a key part
of the BSN community, it’s important for us
that you also feel at home here at the school
and in the Hague.
With this in mind, we offer two workshops
for the newly arrived parents of children
following the EAL Welcome Programme. These
workshops are specifically aimed at helping
you to integrate into the BSN, as well as into
the wider Dutch community.
Dutch Language and Culture Workshop
Tuesday 4 September 9:30 to 12:00 at the BSN Language Centre, Leidschenveen Campus
A useful workshop to give new arrivals
an initial insight into some essential Dutch
words and phrases that may help you in your
initial weeks in Holland.
The workshop’s not just about learning the
language – this fun and informal morning will
introduce you to some of the subtle cultural
differences you may come across during your
time living in the Netherlands.
‘BSN English’ Workshop
Thursday 6 September 9:30 to 12:00 at the BSN Language Centre, Leidschenveen Campus
Whether your English is at a decent level
or a little rusty, you may be grateful for this
introduction to some of the most commonly
used English expressions and words that you
will find in every day communications from the
school.
This workshop in designed to familiarise
parents with the different ways in which the
BSN communicates & will help to ensure you
know who to turn to if there’s anything you
don’t understand in the weeks ahead.
No Additional Fee!The costs for the parent workshops are already
included in the EAL Welcome Programme
fees – there are no additional charges to pay.
RegistrationYou must first register your child to attend the
EAL Welcome Programme via [email protected] or call 070 315 4080. Once
your child has been registered you can inform
the office on whether you’d like to attend one –
or both of these workshops.
Deadline for workshop registrations is Monday 25 August.
