The Florida Circumnavigation Saltwater Paddling Trail (commonly known as the CT) is the longest continuous aquatic trail in the continental United States. The 1,515-mile trail circles the state of Florida from the Panhandle to Jacksonville. It has been divided into 26 segments so that paddlers can paddle a section at a time or the whole trail. Each segment is unique, ranging from the remote Big Bend Coast and Everglades/Florida Bay wilderness, to the more urbanized coastlines of Pinellas County and Fort Lauderdale.

The CT covers  coastal environments, including 20 national parks, seashores, wildlife refuges and marine sanctuaries, 37 Florida aquatic preserves and 47 Florida state parks, and many local parks and preserves. There are numerous historic sites and places of interest too.

Sea kayaking is one of the country’s fastest growing outdoor sports. It’s cheap, promotes physical fitness and is great for families and retirees too.

Our section is #7, The Nature Coast. The next closest place to camp is Anclote Key which is located 3 miles off of the coast across open water. The platform that I wish to build will be a great resting spot in case of bad weather or if the paddler doesn’t want to go so far offshore. There is a compost toilet at the park and it is not too far away from groceries, drugstores and restaurants.
