Page 4, Thursday, March 11,1999 News for Southern Colorado County, Texas The Eagle Lake Headlight OBITUARIES HERITAGE HOUSE NEWS By Linda Tillman, Activity Director Rosie Gillar Vacek October 5,1908 - February 28,1999 Rosie Gillar Vacek, 90, of Colum- bus, passed away at Columbia Medi- cal Center in Conroe Sunday, Febru- ary 28, 1999. She was born October 5, 1908, in Uysehad, Lavaca County, to Ernest and Emilie Gillar, both of whom were immigrants from Czechoslovakia. She was the oldest child with three brothers: Bohumir"Bob", Ernest and Miloslav "Milo". In 1932, she graduated from, La Grange Training School as a Regis- tered Nurse. She later met and married Adolph A. Vacek on October 3, 1932. Her greatest achievement was her family. She was the mother of three: Rosalyn Eversole of Altair, J.D. Va- cek of Houston and A lice Anne Day of Conroe. In the summer of 1942, the family moved to Columbus. Vacek raised her three children and later helped raise five grandchil- dren: Virginia Anderson; Vickie Brown; and Lynda, Robert and Wil- liam Goodman. She had 12 grandchil- dren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild, Thomas Jo- seph "T.J." Brown. She excelled in both business and community. She was the head nurse at John F. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph; and grandchildren, William Goodman and Kelly Ann Vacek. A rosary service was held at Hen- neke Funeral Home Tuesday, March 2, at 7 p.m. Funeral services were held Wed- nesday, March 3, at St. Anthony's Church at 10 a.m. Burial followed in the St. Anthony's Cemetery. Henneke Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Vacek's family and friends gath- ered to celebrate her life at the Colum- bus KC Hall immediately after the services. Well respected and loved dearly by her family, she was a woman of in- credible strength and stability. She was a truly remarkable woman who excelled in her time and, at the end of life, was reconciled to her family and her God. Sympathy is extended to the fam- ily in their loss. Feb. 1: Residents held their monthly council meeting. Each resi- dent was asked to voice their opinion and decide on the meal of the month. Feb. 5: Holy Communion held for all Catholic residents. Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Grasshoff came out to give com- munion. Feb. 10: Residents attended the Senior Bingo in Wharton at Avalon Place. The residents love to play bingo and are ready to play anytime of the day. Feb. 12: Our Valentine Party was held along with the crowning of our King and Queen. Joe Hubenak and Ruby Schindler, were surprised and honored to be chosen as royalty. Feb. 16: Several residents at- tended a Mardi Gras Party in Bay City at Sea Breeze Nursing Home. The residents enjoyed meeting and mak- ing new friends. They most of all en- joyed the outing itself. Feb. 17: The residents enjoyed being entertained by J.C Cooper. A few of the residents joined in and sang along with J.C. Thanks again, J.C. Feb. 18: Residents gathered to shop in the Country Store with their bingo bucks. Feb. 19: Residents outing to Wharton. They are always ready to go and see the farmers getting their Fields ready to harvest, and seeing the im- provements to Wharton County Jun- ior College campus. Feb. 25: The employees' birthday party was celebrated with cake, punch, birthday cake, birthday cards and grab bags for each employee. The Heritage House 1999 Valentine Royalty are Ruby Schindler, queen, and Joe Hubenak, king. Olga Lundquist of Rock Island donated this lovely afghan to the ac- tivity department. The afghan was won by Carmen Romo of the Die- tary Dept. in a drawing held re- cently. Myrtle Braden Vogelsang September 1,1912 - March 4,1999 Myrtle Braden Vogelsang, 86, of Columbus, passed away at Columbus Community Hospital Thursday, March 4, 1999. Myrtle was born September 1, 1912, in Bernardo to Leo J. and Lula Brod Braden. She married E.E. "Slim" Vogel- sang on November 26, 1960. Vogelsang was a homemaker and member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court Mary Queen of Snows #1588, St. Anthony Altar Society, Rice Medical Center Auxiliary and TNT Quilters. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, "Slim", (April 18, 1980); and a brother, Elmer Braden. Survivors include son and daugh- ter-in-law, John and Sharon Cotton of Katy; step-children, Frank and Yvette Vogelsang of Aransas Pass, Marie Gorman of Dallas, Danny and Mar- cena Vogelsang and Wayne and Pat Vogelsang of Houston, Judy and Mike Salvaggio of Katy, Mike and Sally Vogelsang of San Antonio, Stephen and Martha Vogelsang of College Sta- tion; her brothers, Rueben and LJ. Rosie Gillar Vacek October 5,1908 - February 28,1999

Rosie Gillar Vacek, 90, of Colum- bus, passed away at Columbia Medi- cal Center in Conroe Sunday, Febru- ary 28, 1999.
