Project Update - Dave Miller

Dave Miller has been working on a Rutan design glider, called a Solitaire. The glider was a partially finished project, sitting in a museum in Rhode Island. Dave has been workingon it about 4-5 years. Still need a few minor things. Not theleast of which is my Glider rating endorsement.

Should be great fun.

Word of the Day - TestYour Vocabulary

catch-22noun1: a problematic situation for whichthe only solution is denied by acircumstance inherent in the problemor by a rule; also : the circumstanceor rule that denies a solution

2: an illogical, unreasonable, orsenseless situation

DID YOU KNOW?

"Catch-22" originated as the title ofa 1961 novel by Joseph Heller.(Heller had originally planned to titlehis novel Catch-18, but thepublication of Leon Uris's Mila 18persuaded him to change thenumber.) The novel's catch-22 was asfollows: a combat pilot was crazy bydefinition (he would have to be crazyto fly combat missions) and sincearmy regulations stipulated thatinsanity was justification forgrounding, a pilot could avoid flightduty by simply asking, but if heasked, he was demonstrating hissanity (anyone who wanted to get outof combat must be sane) and had tokeep flying. The label "catch-22"soon entered the language as the labelfor any irrational, circular andimpossible situation.

My Introductory FlightBy: Samantha Limbach

On June 6th I took my introductory flight in the C-152. At first I was a littlenervous, but I quickly over came the nerves as Jedd, my instructor, walked methrough the preflight. Then we jumped in and started up the Cessna. It was atotally new experience for me, from being in the left seat and taxiing and takingoff all for the first time. As I have been in several airplanes and was able to takethe controls and fly the planes. This time though it was very different, as I havenever controlled an airplane on the ground. I got to do the take off and I lovedbeing able to do that as I felt like I was totally in control of the airplane. Oncewe were off the ground, we flew around a little bit and did some turns, this wassimilar to flying the other airplanes. The difference was the others I have flownwere control sticks, but the C-152 has a yoke. So not too much different but itwas still a little different but fun. So, then we headed back to the airport. Weentered the pattern on a 45 for left downwind for 36 and Jedd did the landingbut I followed through on the controls. It was a very fun experience. I can't waitto take the next step in getting my pilots license. Now I am looking forward tofinding a way to afford my license in the near future.
