Flagship program of Canadian Patient Safety Institute
Launched in 2005 Goal: To invest in healthcare providers to improve the
delivery of safe patient care in Canada by implementing interventions known to reduce avoidable harm.
745 healthcare organizations enrolled 587 (80%) reported data to SHN Central
Measurement Team at the University of Toronto Sectors - Acute Care, Long-Term Care, Mental
Health and Home Care
The Problem
• Each year 8,000 Canadians die from healthcare associated infections
• 220,000 others get infected

A Solution: The STOP Infections Now Collaborative

Support teams in the Virtual Learning Collaborative to achieve: – 30% reduction in healthcare associated infections
– hand hygiene compliance rates of at least 80%

Interdisciplinary team committed to building sustainable strategies to reduce HAI’s and improve hand hygiene
Commitment to measure results and complete monthly reports
Active participation in Learning Sessions and monthly calls
