SKILLS LISTENING (Short) videos and audiotapes related to the topics mentioned under
‘vocabulary’. Listening for gist first and then for detail. Different types of listening texts: improvised speech; speech based on script.

4. Telling an old story (individually) Conversations and discussions are related to the topics mentioned under ‘vocabulary’. They are both free and more structured. In the latter case students have to make use of specific vocabulary, functions and structures covered in the syllabus. Transactions are mainly related to ‘functions’. A role play is the appropriate format here. In class there are conversations and discussions in groups and in twos. At the exam students converse, discuss and role play in twos. They will also have to relate an old story on their own. Correction in class is mostly indirect and based on a focus. Students are supposed to be willing to take initiative, to be communicative, to link what they say to what their classmates have just communicated and to take risks.
