2015-03-03 ST0028 4...20 mA Loop Powered - LCD Display Unit APPLICATION MANUAL The loop-powered ST0028 reads any 4-20mA signal and displays the information with high accuracy in engineering units. The ST0028 is arranged to be inserted in a 70 mm Head. The indicator may be used in conjunction with a "Head mounted" temperature transmitter or other devices like pressure transmitter. ST0028 is supplied through a small voltage drop on the 4÷20mA loop (max 2,5V ; 22mA). Three buttons allows you to easily calibrate the display and program the configuration parameters: Engineering zero and Full-scale; decimal point position; reading resolution, reading filter, over-range limits and linear or square root scale. Configuration and calibration data are stored in a non-volatile memory. The ST0028 features a “pass through” connection; this means that it is inserted between the loop (with 2 terminal blocks) and the transmitter (with 2 wires). Three holes allow fixing the indicator to the head. The loop-powered ST0028 reads any 4-20mA signal and displays the information with high accuracy in engineering units. The ST0028 is arranged to be inserted in a 70 mm Head. PERFORMANCES Accuracy: 0,1% of working range, ± 1digit Temperature drift: 100 ppm/°C EMC: EN61000-6-4 and EN61000-6-2 with instrument correctly installed.

KEYBOARD

The configuration of parameters is done using three keys placed on the back or in front of instrument: the middle key (F) is the “Enter” function, while the lateral keys are “Increment” (↑) and “Decrement” (↓). The ↓ and ↑ keys pushed at the same time, make the "Escape" function. All configuration functions are supported by the display (see Table 1).

F Access the configuration menu; menu scrolling; data storage.

↓ Digit decrement; parameter selection and/or setting

↑ Digit increment; parameter selection and/or setting

↑ + ↓ Escape

Push and hold for 3 seconds the F key to enter the configuration menu: the first configuration item, thedecimal point position [dP], will appear. Use the ↑ and ↓ keys for cycling among the items, while the F keypushed again, will lead to set the parameter. Changes are stored in non-volatile memory at the end ofconfiguration using the “F” key.

CONFIGURATION ITEMS

Decimal point [dP]

Use ↑ and ↓ keys to select the decimal point position (from none to 3 decimals).

Default = 1 decimal

Engineering zero setting [ZerO] Use ↑ and ↓ keys to set the zero value ( -1999 to +9999 ). Default =0

Engineering full-scale setting [SPAn] Use ↑ and ↓ keys to set the full-scale value ( -1999 to +9999 ). Default = 100.0

Reading limits selection [Li]This item allows to select the display indication limits when the input goes out of 4÷20 mA range (under/overload). WithLi=0, the display indicate [OL] when the input is over 20 mA and [-OL] when under 4mA. With Li=1 the indication will be10% extended beyond the 4÷20 mA range. In both of case the [OL] [-OL] indications appears when the engineeringlimits are exceeded (-1999 +9999). Default = 0.

Filter setting [FiLt] Press ↑ key to increase or ↓ key to decrease the number of samples in the mean function on the input signal. Availablevalues goes from 1 to 8: Filt=1 sets no average and the display will be updated every 250 ms. Should spikes, noise orother disturbances be on input signal, increasing the filter value will lead the measure to be more stable; the displayupdate time will be increased. Updating time is 250 ms multiplied by the selected Filt number. Default = 1

Resolution [riS] Press ↑ key to increase or ↓ key to decrease the display resolution. Available values are 1, 2, 5 and 10; the numbermeans the minimum change between consecutive readings. Higher values should be used only when large engineering range are set or when the input signal is not steady. Default = 1

Transfer function [Lin] / [root] (*)Use ↑ and ↓ keys to select the transfer function for the visualization: Lin ( linear ) and root ( Square root ).Default = Lin
