1. MEETING DETAILS 11/30/2016
Danielle Shaw called the meeting to order at 11:35 a.m.
WELCOME/INTRODUCTIONS
A quorum was not present therefore no votes could be taken and no voting items were discussed. It was decided that it would be best to remind members of the by-laws that address attendance at meetings, and that this is an issue to be further pursued in the January steering committee meeting.
2. PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES 10/26/2016
Minutes were provided from the 10/26/2016 steering committee meeting, but because there was not a quorum present, they were not brought for vote.
3. COMMITTEE/TASK FORCE ACTIONS
Information/Research Collecting and providing information for better decision making
PIT Count. Danielle Shaw reported from the PIT Count committee. All materials for garnering volunteers are available and volunteer recruitment and signup has begun. We are low on volunteers at this point, thus various steering committee members are reaching out to groups and individuals to increase participation. Training dates have been set for Denton and Lewisville.
Coordinated Entry. Courtney Cross reported from the Coordinated Entry Committee. There was a training session earlier this month with more training to come in January. It was noted that the 7 HUD Data Points for assessing how well we are housing people who are experiencing homelessness have been adopted. It was also noted that the CE team is looking at how best to also work with the Denton Homelessness Leadership Team.
Coalition BuildingBuilding relationships, partnerships, and collaborations to reduce homelessness
Denton County Homelessness Summit Update. Courtney Cross reported that the Denton County Homelessness Summit held this month resulted in good conversation/discussion/questions and seemed to serve as a good catalyst to spark public interest in the status of people experiencing homelessness. She has seen some follow up already.
Advocacy Telling the story of homelessness in Denton County
Nothing reported.
Impact Members and Other Stakeholders Bringing more people to the conversation and getting more support for DCHC initiatives
Steering Committee Election Results. Danielle Shaw reviewed the results of the steering committee election and the slate of steering committee members who will be in office beginning January 1, 2017. It was noted that Connie Schmidt has stepped down from her position.
4. WORKING/NETWORKING FACILITATED GROUP ACTIVITIES and/or PANELS discussion
No items at this meeting.
5. GENERAL BODY MEETING AGENDA DEVELOPMENT. The following items were set for the General Body Meeting to be held Dec 7, 2016. Annual election results announcement; PIT Count update/discussion; Coordinated Entry update; Homelessness Leadership Team update including Denton County Homelessness Summit; and 2016 accomplishments.
6. NEW BUSINESS
Danielle Shaw noted that the email address for the Coalition is often inundated with email requests and asked that we determine how and who best to manage responses. She also noted that we needed to determine how to best respond to requests for interviews and other media requests. A speakers bureau type approach was suggested along with a sheet of talking points. It was decided that this would be a topic taken up in the January meeting of the Steering Committee.
7. COMMUNITY/AGENCY ANNOUNCEMENTS Agency and Community Announcements
Email with a letter of intent for sponsors for a jobs program called Employ 2 Empower will be coming out this week. It is a program designed to help people experiencing homelessness develop marketable skills that they can transition to employment.
