OR

* It is preferable to play a plain E (no 7th) here but an E7 is perfectly acceptable. ** It struck me that there is an open E string on the Uke so there must be a easier E chord, so I have given you an alternative. It does not seem to appear in chord charts?!But it’s a perfectly good version and easier especially when followed by a E7!

About this song: "The Cowboy Carol" was written by Cecil Broadhurst, a Canadian artist, songwriter, actor and playwright who had a passionate interest in all things Western. He wrote over a hundred cowboy songs, including this one; ”There’ll be a New World Beginning from Tonight”, which has become know today as the ‘Cowboy Carol”.It was made famous in an arrangement by Sir Malcolm Sargent and was an annual fixture as the rousing finale of his hugely popular Christmas concerts of at the Royal Albert Hall. approx durat ion ???

NEW CHORDS

*If you can?: Throughout this song substitute the F with Dm7 - it’s a more ‘bluesy’ chord. Anchor your little finger on the note C, (top string 3rd fret) and play the C, Am7 and Dm7 without moving it. (Am7 can be played as four open strings as it has the same noes as C6!)Sequence at end of Middle 8. Tricky! You can omit the greyed out chords.

E Q Q Q Q E Q QI G Gmaj7 G7 F C7 E bdim G7 I f you' l l check off my Christ-mas l is t

Note G+7 is a standard shorthand for G major 7th F#o for F# diminished. I have given an alternative chord shape for C diminished that’ll make life a little easier.About This Carol : Written by Joan Javits and Philip Springer, originally recorded by Eartha Kit and released in October 1953.

"Let It Snow", was written by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne in July 1945. Written in Hollywood during a heat wave as Cahn was longing for cooler conditions and although the song's lyrics make no mention of Christmas, it is played during the Christmas season and often appears on Christmas albums.First recorded for RCA in 1945 by Vaughn Monroe, it became a popular hit, reaching #1 on the Billboard Best Sellers music chart in late January and through February 1946. Woody Herman's competing recording, featuring himself on vocals and a notable trumpet solo by Sonny Berman, peaked at #7. It has been covered by many famous artists including; Bing Crosby (probably the most famous version), Frank Sinatra, Ela Fitzgerald, Doris Day, Glen Campbell, , Dean Martin, Carly Simon, Kylie Minogue & Gwen Stefani.

"Away in a Manger" first published in the late nineteenth century and is used widely throughout the English-speaking world. In Britain, it is one of the most popular carols; a 1996 Gallup Poll ranked it joint second.Although it was long claimed to be the work of German religious reformer Martin Luther, the carol is now thought to be wholly American in origin. The origins of the lyric is obscure, almost every line in the carol has variants.

About this Song: "Jingle Bel ls" is one of the best known American songs in the world. It was written by James Lord Pierpont in 1857 and published under the t it le "One Horse Open Sleigh”. In New England in pre-automobile days, i t was common to adorn horses' harnesses with bel ls as a way to avoid col l isions as a horse-drawn sleigh in snow makes almost no noise. The rhythm of the tune mimics that of a trott ing horse's bel ls. Original ly intended for Thanksgiving it has now become associated with Christmas al l over the world. I t was f irst performed on Washington Street in Boston in 1857 and became very popular in the 1860s and appears in a variety of parlor-song anthologies of the 1880s. I t has been claimed that i t was original ly written for a Sunday school choir but i t is for too “racy" to be sung by a chi ldren's church choir in those days!. I t was f irst recorded in 1889 on an Edison cyl inder.
