Notes

This is an exhibitor sponsored session; we’re promoting our product Spike@School that has an ePortfolio module.

Our aim today is to teach you how our ePortfolio module works, not to go into ePortfolio theory.

I’ll try to make sure that you’re all keeping up with the instructions but yell out if you if you’re having trouble.

The tutorial is self paced, so feel free to read and work ahead of me if you want to get done faster.

Let’s get started…

Page 14: E portfolio's guide presentation

Logging In

Log into your existing Spike@School website or…

Log into our training site using the instructions on Page 1.

Page 15: E portfolio's guide presentation

Create a new ePortfolio Area

An ePortfolio Area houses your Members (students) who will be creating ePortfolios.

Follow the instructions on Page 1 to create your ePortfolio Area.

Page 16: E portfolio's guide presentation

Create a new Member

A Member is just a user within your ePortfolio Area. You’ll normally create a member account for each student in your classroom.

Instructions for creating a Member are on Page 1.

Breadcrumbs

Help you navigate in Spike@School. They show you the way home.

The grey box on Page 2 has more info.

Logout

You need to log out of the Admin System to simulate what it is like for a student to log into their ePortfolio Area.

If you remain logged into the Admin System you can see all Members and ePortfolios without a password. This is useful for auditing purposes.

Containers

Containers house ePortfolios in your ePortfolio Area.

You can create your own custom container structures.

Think of them as folders.

You don’t have to have any containers if you don’t want to.

Instructions for making a container are on Page 2.

Add a New ePortfolio

Follow the instructions on Page 2 and 3 to create your first ePortfolio and enter into it.

Edit Settings

Make your ePortfolio prettier by changing the background colour or by uploading a background image. See Page 4.

If you make your ePortfolio public anyone can view the ePortfolio via a link under your name on the entry page for this ePortfolio Area.

If you give your ePortfolio a password the public viewers will first need to enter this password before being able to view the ePortfolio.

You can combine both options to list the ePortfolio under your name and also require a password to view it.

Edit the Overview

You can edit the Overview at the top of the ePortfolio.

The overview allows you to introduce and summarise your ePortfolio. You have more screen width to play with.

Follow the instructions on Page 4 to learn how to do this.
