ON OPEN LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT RE THE FOLK FEST

I would like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone for making last night the great suc-cess that it was. The only "down side" was that the attendance numbers were down . This was due to the fact that several other functions were on the same date and that tended to draw our regular audience to other venues. Had our attendance numbers been up we would have been able to increase the perform-ers return and ,as was always our plan, raise

more money for this years cause that was explained last night. Neverthe-less despite this we were able to contribute nearly $400 to that cause. A big thank you to all of the performers , in particular Yarn Wositzky who had a 2 hour drive to get home after the Concert. Thank you to the committee and the sound guys and to the performers who gave us a night to remember. Max Amos

THE SEEKERS RESUME THEIR 50th ANNIVERSARY TOUR A MATCH-fit Judith Durham will resume the Seekers' 50th Anniversary tour in Novem-ber. The tour was postponed when Durham suffered a cerebral haemorrhage after the first Melbourne show of the tour on May 14. She has spent three months in the Epworth Hospital and embarked on extensive rehab at home before doctors green lighted her return to the stage. "I'm very very well, I'm raring to get back to the stage," Durham said today. ``It's been such a frustration knowing the incredible support from everyone. All the fans, bless them, instead of asking for their money back which they rightfully should have, none of them did. They've all been in good faith the tour would happen at some point."

Durham, who turned 70 in July, admitted her recovery from the life-threatening health shock was assisted by early treat-ment. "I believe with a cerebral haemorrhage there's a 30 per cent chance you can die, that came as a bit of a bomb-shell. When you have this kind of thing happen you can lose your movement. Because I had attention in the first three hours of something not being quite right it means I have considerable abilities now I could have lost quite easily. We are going to appreciate this reunion on yet another level now. We can't take each other for granted."

The band had a private rehearsal in Melbourne two weeks ago to test Durham's vocals. The re-scheduled Australian tour starts in Perth at Riverside Theatre on November 2 and 3, then re-turns to Melbourne's Hamer Hall on November 7, 8 and an extra show on November 28, Ade-laide's AEC Theatre on November 11 and 12, Sydney's State Theatre November 15, Wollon-gong's Entertainment Centre on November 19, Hobart's Derwent Entertainment Centre on No-vember 23, Launceston's Princess Theatre on November 25, Toowoomba's Empire Theatre on December 2 and Brisbane's Convention Centre on December 4.

FESTIVALS PAGE Girgarre Moosic Muster Jan 10th-12th

Peninsula Folk Club have been involved with Girgarre since it’s inception. The 9th Moosic Muster and promises to be another great weekend. If you’ve never been, your Committee would encourage you to give it a try...You’ll be

with some people you know in a very relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. PFC mem-bers are always involved on stage.

The Girgarre Moosic Muster is a community run festival held in January each year in the small farming community of Girgarre, west of Shepparton in Victo-ria. Have you ever aspired to play a musical instrument but have never been given the opportunity to try? This is your chance.

Been playing for a while and want some additional inspiration? The advanced workshops provide an opportunity for those who can already play and want to improve their skills. There will be a group of talented teachers to run the workshops. If you are able to assist in the running of the workshops, your help would be greatly appreciated.

• Weekend Registration Fee for camp-ers: $50.00 - includes: Friday night sausage sizzle, Saturday night din-ner, Sunday morning breakfast and camping.

• The reserve has toilets and the Town Hall’s own shower and toilet block is available free.

Registration is all-inclusive: included in your fee is the Friday night sausage sizzle, Saturday night dinner in hall and Sunday morning breakfast in the park.

If camping is not your “thing” , comfortable motel accommodation is available at Kyabram, which is only a short drive away. Suggest you book early for that though as it is Summer holiday time.

18th October Grandsons of the Pioneers Having all come from a

background of playing in bands for a combined total of about 160 years, the "Grandsons" came together initially to have a social pick together on weekends, enjoying playing and singing songs with a lean towards "Country", and in particular, traditional Western Cowboy music. They eventually built up a repertoire of songs which featured four part harmony vocals ac-companied by acoustic guitars. Leo suggested recording the songs in his home studio which resulted in the production of this CD. So sit back, relax, go back in time and enjoy the harmonious singing and picking of " The Grandsons Of The Pioneers " on their debut album " Happy Trails ". The Grandsons of the Pioneers are........... John Tippett, acoustic bass and vocals Bill Jeffrey, acoustic guitar and vocals Con Anag, nylon string guitar and vocals Leo Dal-ton, acoustic guitar and vocals

DID YOU KNOW? The Nike “SWOOSH” was designed by Carolyn Davidson in 1971. She was paid $35 for it!! I hope the guy responsible for “the Golden Arches” did better!!

Q: How can you tell if it's a folksinger at the door? A: He can't find his key, and

he doesn't know when to come in.

What's the difference between cutting up and onion and cutting up a banjo? No one cries when you cut up a banjo.
