Port Surges Ahead
Paradip Port Trust, in the current financial year up to 31th January,
2017 handled 72.90 million tonnes as compared to 61.68 million
tonnes of Cargo handled during the corresponding period of the
previous year with growth of 18.20%.
Paradip Port Trust handled 7.98 million tonnes of Cargo during the
month of January 2017 as compared to 6.54 million tonnes of Cargo
handled during the corresponding period of the previous year with a
growth of 22%.
In the current financial year, up to January 2017, Coking Coal traffic
has exhibited a growth of 20.72%. Similarly POL Traffic was
increased by 34.03%, Iron ore 461.03%, FRM (DRY) 0.70% and
other Cargo traffic grew by 66% compared to the same period of
previous year. Paradip Port has retained the second highest position
in terms of Cargo handled amongst all the major ports till the end of
January 2017.
The average Berth-day output up to the month improved by 14.94%
over the corresponding period of previous year. The Port achieved
an output per ship berth day of 27,885 MMT / Day in January 2017 as

compared to 24,778 MMT / Day, thereby registering an
improvement of 12%.
The Port also handled 140 vessels in January 2017 as compared to
122 vessels in January 2016. Port also handled 42.34 million tonnes
rail borne traffic up to the end of January, 2017 as compared to 39.70
million tonnes handled during the corresponding period of the
previous year with a growth of 6.66%.
Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Road Transport &
Highways, Shipping and Chemicals & Fertilisers, Shri
Mansukh L. Mandaviya made an official visit to Paradip
Port Trust on 05.01.2017. He was warmly greeted by
Shri Rinkesh Roy, Chairman, PPT along with Heads of
the Departments. In the forenoon, the Hon'ble Minister
made a review of the PPT activities. Thereafter, he had an
interactive session with the PPT officials, Trustees and
Unions. After the meeting, he inspected Port operations
in the Dock area.
In the afternoon, he conducted another meeting with
officials of Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals
Investment Region (PCPIR) and Plastic Park. During the
review of progress of PCPIR and Plastic Park, he stressed
the need for collaborative approach for faster
development of the area.

68th Republic Day was celebrated by Paradip Port Trust on 26th January 2017 with fervor
at Gopabandhu Stadium. Shri Rinkesh Roy, Chairman, Paradip Port Trust unfurled the
National Flag and took Salute from 40 Platoons in the March Past consisting of CISF
Jawans, Paradip College and different schools of Paradip Township along with a platoon
of Port employees retiring in the year 2017.
Addressing on the occasion, Shri Roy narrated the importance of celebrations of Republic
Day nationwide and informed about the progress and achievements of Paradip Port.
After the march past, school students displayed mass drill and yoga, while members of
Paradip Sakshyarata Samiti presented Patriotic Group Song. Chairman, PPT felicitated
officers and employees of the Port who have made outstanding contribution in their field
of works and also awarded prizes to the platoons which exhibited best performance in the
Parade.

Paradip Sakshyarata Samity organised a workshop on "Plastics Recycling and
its Conversion into Value added Products" jointly with the Central Institute of
Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET), Bhubaneswar at the Officers'
Club of Paradip Port Trust from 30th to 31st January, 2017 for creating
awareness among the Teachers, students, municipality, NGOs, etc, as a part
of CSR activity. Resource persons from CIPET namely, Smt. Mousam
Choudhuri and Shri K.K. Sahu presented a Power Point show on 1st day,
explaining the methods of recycling plastics through mechanised conversion
into pallets which can be further used with bitumen in road construction
works. On the 2nd day of the workshop, representatives from Paradip
Municipality, local NGOs, school teachers, members of Paradip Ladies Club
and Mahila Samities participated and interacted with the CIPET resource
persons, clarifying their doubts and concerns relating to the plastics
recycling.

self reliant, a coir production unit was launched at Baba
Akhandalamanipada, Nuabazar on 12.01.2017. Smt. Subhalaxmi
Roy, President, Paradip Ladies Club inaugurated the Unit. Smt.
Pravati Nayak, Vice Chairman, Paradip Municipality, Shri Manoj
Behera, Councillor, Nuabazar, Social Worker Prahalad Swain,
renowned writer Smt. Haramani Mohapatra and Smt. Tulasi Barala,
Poetess also graced the occasion and urged local Akhandalamani
Mahila Samiti members to become financially self reliant by
imbibing skills in coir production. Prizes were also distributed
among the meritorious mahila samiti members participated in
rangoli (jhoti) and newspaper reading competitions.
