What is e-learning?

“If someone is learning in a way that uses information and communication technologies (ICT), they are using e-learning.”

• A pre-school child playing an interactive game;• A group of pupils collaborating on a history project with pupils in another country via the Internet; • Geography students watching an animated diagram of a volcanic eruption their lecturer has just downloaded; • A nurse taking her driving theory test online with a reading aid to help her dyslexia.

Why do we need a strategy?•A lot of e-learning going on already, but not co-ordinated.•E-learning is not embedded in our teaching and learning, at any level. •Recognition of the benefits of e-learning to the way we teach and learn. •Government has a responsibility to ensure that these benefits are universal.
