B Y: D I V I N E T I S S E R A

A IS FOR AVOCADO B IS FOR BALSAM PEAR

Dark, creamy, and has the form of an egg… it’s the avocado! Mexico was so lucky to have this tree first. These trees only grow in tropical climates.(No wonder they don’t grow in Canada!) Avocados are high in healthy fats but remember don’t eat the light green ones.

Now if you run out of mints balsam pears are not the answer. First off it’s really bitter, second off it makes your breath smell horrible even though it’s a fruit! The momordica charatia the African name, is perfect for medicines and herbs. Warning watch out for hanging vines.

C IS FOR COFFEE CHERRY D IS FOR DRAGON FRUIT

Don’t mess with the coffee cherry. It lives up to 100-200 years protected by buckthorns. This isn’t just a small bush it can grow up to a whole whopping 12 feet. All though it’s red, the size of a cranberry, and kind of sweet it’s not an apple. Trust me these North American cherries aren’t an apple!

The good old pitahaya blanca a.k.a. the dragon fruit. For such a bold & bright Mexican outside it’s pretty bland. You can almost taste a kiwi or pear but you can’t. Maybe it could be all the seeds! I think it could be the inside. Whatever the real reason is just add some ketchup.

E IS FOR EGG FRUIT F IS FOR FIG

One of the coolest species name I’ve ever heard of is the Nightshade family. Which is kind of weird because the tomato is a relative. Most know this purple cooking item as the eggplant. Originating from more then one place. The eggplant still is a fruit. That means you can see the seeds!

Stuff it up and you can make an ornament! This is an amazing fruit it can even go through droughts! If I could make a fig a super fruit I would. Bees don’t even pollinate this purple fruit wasps do! If you’re hungry I hope you fig-ure out this is the answer!

G IS FOR GOOSEBERRY H IS FOR HONEYDEW MELON

Is it red or is green? All we know for sure is that it’s very sweet and is a perfect snack! So go outside and pick some but be careful this little shrub is protected by thorns. The ribes uvacripa has tiny seeds to fit it’s tiny size. DON’T eat the purple ones promise me that.

I scream! I scream! We all scream for honeydew melon? Wait, what? Well I wouldn’t eat it if it wasn’t ripe. It would taste bland and have no juicy flavor! Unless it was ripe then it would be very sweet! South-East Asia must have some mixed feelings. I know I would question it…

I IS FOR ITÉ PALM J IS FOR JABUTICABA

Don’t make fun of me there’s more then one way to spell ité palm. Natives eat it’s fruit & buds, drink it’s sap, and make cords and threads out of it’s fibers! I guess it’s only colour is chestnut. Most of these trees grow near swamps, wet areas, or tropical areas. He! He! He! Ité PALM isn’t that a given joke!

You know that saying slow and steady does the trick. This Brazilian grape tree takes 5 years to grow! Once it comes though you can make jams, tarts, wines, and even liqueurs! Instead of being normal the jabuticaba thought “ NO! I want to grow on the trunk!” what a purple thick skinned savage.

K IS FOR KIWI L IS FOR LYCHEE

How to pronounce kiwi. (KEE-WEE) As simple as an egg well their the same size. They were from china but they don’t share the same name… Chinese gooseberry. A kiwi has thin skin and a fuzzy brown outside. On the inside though it’s green with tiny black seeds. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover!

This may sound weird but the lychee smells pleasant. Just like an orange you can peel it but it might be a little harder. Unlike the orange this has a white inside and it’s in the soapberry family. All though this originated in China it was named by a French dude. I’m kind of wondering if it’s even a fruit…

M IS FOR MANGO N IS FOR NECTARINE

If you thought there was only one type of mango you’re completely wrong there’s 400! You can’t even bite straight into it and there’s only one seed! Yet it’s sooo sweet and juicy… when its ripe. Once again it can’t grow in Canada. Wouldn’t it be nice thought to have that colourful frenzy.

Don’t break your teeth chomping on a peach that has one seed! It may be orange and mushy but don’t get tempted. Yes it’s smooth, tasty, and sweet… ok go ahead. Just a little reminder brown is not the right colour that you want to eat.

O IS FOR OGEECHEE LIME P IS FOR PAPAYA

I mean the pulp technically is edible but extremely sour and bitter. I’d stick with juicing it. Still the nyssa ogeche has a sub acid taste. This white/yellow fruit from Georgia needs water. Almost like a fish… even a mud sucker! This large fruit is something you don’t want if you don’t know what it is.

Papaw! Pawpaw! No, I’m not yelling it’s the same names as the papaya. Sometimes called the “Fruit of the Angels”. Originating from South America this male/female/hermaphrodite is sweet! Sorry I’m wasting your time on this green fruit.

Q IS FOR QUINCE R IS FOR RAMBUTAM

Poor quince it’s the only member in it’s genus. You can help this bright golden yellow fruit for only a 1$ a day. This hard pear like fruit IS useful! You can cook him maybe because he’s so good. Don’t get confused the seeds aren’t stolen from an apple. Call 1-800-QUI-NCES for more details.

Got to be cautious eating this sweetish fruit. Don’t eat the skin, the seeds, the twig , or the tree! The rambutam is the size of a golf ball and has a taxonomic name. It’s red but has soft yellow thing on the outside. It’s a very good snack ONLY if you know how to eat it.

S IS FOR STAR FRUIT T IS FOR TANGERINE

If you’re craving some waxy fruit this is the answer. Just kidding that’s just green skin. A.K.A the carambola is native in 10 places! Meanwhile you’re reading this you can have a star fruit and even eat it whole! Don’t be alarmed it’s supposed to be white on the inside. Something weird about this fruit is it may have originated in 4 places.

Peel that orangey tangerine! Wow that sounds like something a 7th grader would write… oh wait. A tangerine is pretty much half an orange.(size.) Yet soo much sweeter then… aren’t you bananas I didn’t say orange !!!! I don’t know what I'm doing anymore.

U IS FOR UGLI V IS FOR VALENCIA ORANGE

Grape fruit + orange + tangerine = ugli. It’s a little bit bigger then a grape fruit. Yet less sour but more sour then an orange. This Jamaican fruit is soooo juicy. Jamaica is one of those lucky places who has fruit Canada can’t!!

Seeds, seeds, seeds galore! (For an orange.) This American orange can have up to 9 seeds. 60% of these juicy oranges are made in Florida. They are purple, not really they’re orange sorry for getting your hopes up. Great now you won’t believe me that they taste good.

W IS FOR WOOD APPLE X IS FOR XIMENIA

No it’s not made out of wood… well. No, it’s way to hard, it’s as hard as a coconut! When you get in it you’ll probable gag because it smells that bad but it taste really good. It’s gray on the outside but I guess it’s an exotic fruit. Wood apples taste very good made into a cake or was it jello?

Ever heard of cyanide I think it will blow your mind! The ximenia’s leaves contain cyanide. This oval fruit is in Asia . Somehow though it taste like a plum and smells like an almond. The ximenia is pretty much the same colour as every fruit ORANGE!!!!!!!

Y IS FOR YUZU Z IS FOR ZIG Z AG VINE

Yuzu not you-zoo but yuzu. Its either yellow or green but still looks like a small grape fruit and just as sour. Just like a rose it’s protected by thrones. East Asia found this citrus fruit. The yuzu can grow over 10cms! I Take back what I said in the beginning maybe you do pronounce it like you-zoo.

It’s may say vine at the end but it’s a fruit.(At least that’s what you think!) This is Australian cuisine. You can make soo many things like sauces, gourmet dishes, and it taste like a sherbet. The melodorum leichnardtii grows in a rainforest. Finally what you’ve been waiting for… it’s the colour ORANGE!!!!!!
