Aerobee NASA 4.106 NP was launched by Naval Ordnance Mis- sile T e s t Fac i l i t y personnel, White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), ?Tew Mexico, a t 0820 5ours MST, 9 *Hay 1966.

Meteorological data used i n conjunction withstheoret ical calculat ions t o predict rocket impact were c o l l e c t e d b y the Meteorological Support Division, Atmospheric Sciences Labora- tory, ' i i t e Sands i-iissile Range, iu'ew i.lexico. Pie Billiistic Meteorologists f o r this firing were Marjorie M. Hoidale and Ivan I. Layton.

DImSSION

Wind data f o r t he first 4,OOO feet above t h e surface were obtained from a Double-Theodolite Wind Velocity Computer Sys- tem (1). and tracked from a 2,000-foot baseline. data were transmitted from two e l e c t r i c a l l y instrumented theo- d o l i t e s t o a computer where t h e da ta were reduced t o obtain a velocity-vs-height re la t ionship, two recorders which trace north-south and east-west components on a spec ia l ly designed wind ve loc i ty computer bal l is t ic chart. Temperature, pressure and humidity data, along with upper wind data from 4,000 t o approximately 100,000 feet above the surface, were obtained from standard rawinsonde operations.

Mean wind component values i n each b a l l i s t i c zone w e r e determined from vertical cross sectiors by equal-area method,

Data appearing i n Tables IX, X and X I , are based on t h e L. D. Duncan (2) theory, when applicable, an adjustment o f impact based on t h e experi- ence o f the Ba l l i s t i c Meteorologists and the forecas t of fir- ing time wind conditions.
