Are plants and animals are pH sensitive.

In soil pH level is important.

It is important to maintain pH of our digestive system.

pH changes the cause of tooth decay.

Self defence by animals and plants through chemical welfare.

Importance of pH in everyday life

Comparison of properties of ACIDS & BASES

ACIDS Acids are Proton donor

& electron acceptor. Sour in taste. Change litmus paper

to red. React with metal

carbonate, hydrogen carbonates.

React with metallic oxides.

When acid react with Water it give H+ ion.

BASE Base are Electron donor

& proton acceptor. Bitter in taste. Change litmus paper to

blue. React with metals (Al,

Zn, Cr).

React with oxides, hydroxide.

When base react with Water it give OH- ion.

Salt are formed by mixing Acid and Base in Reaction. Salts having the same positive or negative radicals . Salts of strong acid & a strong base are NEUTRAL with pH value of 7. On the other

hand, salts of a strong acid & weak base are acidic with pH value less than 7 & those of a strong base & weak acid are basic in nature with value more than 7.

Some Salts are naturally occur. For example- Common Salt. Some salts are make by using chemicals and use in large scale. It is used as for commercial and industrial purposes. For Example- 1. NaOH 2. Bleaching Powder. 3. Baking Soda 4. Washing Soda
