We are excited about moving forward with the remainder of Term 1 in a positive and engaging manner! We would like to take this opportunity to remind families once again that it is important that people park in per- mitted areas when you visit the school. Drivers are reminded that permitted areas include: 1. The school parking lot; or, 2. Streets that do not have prohibited parking or prohibited stopping signs posted. If you park your car in the driveway loop in front of the school to drop something off, you may be issued a ticket from the City of Markham. There is clear signage on the side of the school indicating that the driveway loop at the front of the school is a Fire Route. Fire Routes are the roads, laneways, or driveways that provide access to a building and may also include areas within a parking lot. A driver is in violation of this parking regulation if he/ she is stopped or parked in a Fire Route even if their engine is running, hazard lights are flashing, or there is someone in the car.” (- excerpt from the City of Markham letter) We are attaching once again the letter that was shared with families electronically at the start of the school year from the City of Markham related to this issue. Please make sure you review page 2 of that letter as it includes some important information related to signage and parking. At our most recent School Council meeting, Ms. Farheen Aftab and Ms. Vasuki Vigneswararajah were acclaimed as our School Council Co-Chairs and Mr. Eskay Saravanakumar as our Treasurer for the 2016 – 2017 school year. The role of Secretary was not filled and, if anyone has an interest in assuming this role, please join us at our next meeting. We look forward to working collaboratively with the executive and the other members of the council as we progress through the school year. As always, all members of the community are invited and encouraged to come and join us at our monthly meetings. The meeting for December has been postponed and we will next meet as a Council on Thursday, January 19 th . Please consider joining us at 6:30 pm in the library. E - BULLETIN UPDATE #6

December 1-15, 2016

PEDICULOSIS ( HEAD LICE) Each year, cases of pediculosis (head lice) are found throughout our schools. In an effort to reduce the numbers of cases of pediculosis and decrease the inconvenience to parents/guardians and students, the York Region District School Board requests your assistance. Please inspect you child(ren)’s hair and scalp for pediculosis. Periodic inspections during the year will help prevent the spread of head lice. REMIND YOUR CHILD(REN) NOT TO SHARE HATS WITH OTHER CHILDREN!!! Head lice are tiny (1/8” or 3mm long) wingless insects with flattened bodies. They cling to the hair by means of six legs. They live most-ly behind the ears and the nape of the neck. The female lays tiny, yellowish-white eggs, called nits. They resemble dandruff but are at-tached to the hair by a cement like material and are very difficult to remove. It is usually the eggs that are noticed first. If head lice are found, do not send your child to school, until treated. This will prevent the spread of pediculosis. Children are only al-lowed to re-enter the class when all the nits are removed from the hair. For more information… Please contact Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000 or TTY: 1-866-797-0007 (for the deaf or hard of hear-

ing).
