The Academy was inspected in June 2017, when it was judged to be providing a GOODeducation for its early years provision. The rest of the school was judged as requiringimprovement.OurstrongLeadershipTeamhaveput intoplaceaplanofactionwhichwillquickly move the Academy to “Good”. This includes work linked to the development ofteaching, curriculum reviews, the development of behaviour and attendance and thedevelopment of engagement opportunities for parents and carers. This work is alreadyresultinginpositiveimpacts.WehaveastrongrelationshipwithParkwoodAcademy,andour localitygroupofschools.Ourstaffandchildrenhavebeenworkingtogetherverypositivelyonarangeofinitiatives.

E-ACT’s governance structure is based on the establishment of Regional Teams that are led by aRegional Director of Education and a Regional Director of Operations. The Regional Directors aresupportedbyaseriesofexpertSystemLeaders.FortheRegionalEducationteam,thiswillinclude:·aSafeguardingandattendanceSystemLeader;·aSpecialEducationalNeedsandDisabilities(SEND)andbehaviourSystemLeader;·adataSystemLeader;and·SubjectspecialistSystemLeaders(dependingontheneedsoftheregion)The Regional Education Director holds the Headteacher to account on the performance of eachacademywithintheirregion,actingunderthedelegatedauthorityoftheE-ACTBoardofTrustees.Inturn,theRegionalEducationDirectorsareheldtoaccountbytheNationalDirectorofEducationfortheacademieswithintheirregion,andtheNationalDirectorofEducationandtheCEOaredirectlyaccountabletotheBoardofTrustees.Pathwayshas6weeklyRaisingAchievementBoardmeetings toensure that theacademy is beingsupported and scrutinised in its educational performance. The educational Raising AchievementBoards are led by the Regional Education Director, with attendance from the relevant regionalSystemLeadersandAcademySeniorLeadershipTeam.AlongsidetheRaisingAchievementBoards,E-ACThasestablishedadvisorybodiesineachacademycalledtheAcademyAmbassadorialAdvisoryGroup(AAG).TheAcademyAmbassadorremitwillhasfourkeyelements:Celebration:tohelptomakesurethatcelebrationofstaff,pupilsandparentsremainsapriorityforeachacademy,andtofindthebestwaytodothis.Communication: toworkwithstaff,pupilsandparents tomakesure that theacademyeffectivelycommunicates to all stakeholders, so that everyone feels part of academy life and has theopportunitytoaccessinformationandevents.Concernsorcomplaints:toactasanindependentlocalpointofcontactforstaff,pupilsandparentsto express their concerns. Academy Ambassadors will signpost people to the right channels fordealingwiththeir issuesandwillensurethatanyconcernsorcomplaintsarefedbacktotheAAG.Where any trends emerge, the Academy Ambassadors work with the Headteacher and otherambassadors to help find solutions. WearefortunatetohaveatwoSeniorLearningMentorsatPathways.TheirroleistoworkcloselywithfamiliestobuildgoodcommunicationbetweenhomeandtheAcademy.Italsoinvolves working with children to enable them to maximise their potential by raisingattainment,improvingattendanceandencouraginggoodrelationshipswithpeers.Theyplayaprominentpartinsupportinganddevelopingacultureofpositivebehaviour.TheLearningMentors work closely with other Academies to ease the transition of children movingbetweenAcademies.
Bullying is a concern foreveryparent.Weworkon theprinciple thateveryAcademyhasbullyingpresentatsomepoint.Wethereforetakeaproactiveapproachtoanti-bullying.WeaddressissueswithinPSHCE,CircleTimeandassemblies.All bullying is tackled andweensure that allmembers, children and adults know that noformofbullyingwillbetoleratedatPathwaysPrimary.Everychildmatterstoeverymemberofstaffandourmainaimistoensureeverychild is,andfeels,safe,secureandhappy.Wehaveaseparatebullyingpolicyinplace.The behaviour policy has been recently reviewed in collaboration with all Academystakeholders.Another key part of our provision to support wellbeing for children is our Academy dogOscar.

TheAcademy’sCurriculumisorganisedsoastofulfilstatutoryordersoftheEducationActof1996.The National Curriculum consists of three core subjects, English,Maths and Science andseven non-core foundation subjects: Information and Communication Technology (ICT),History, Geography, Design and Technology,Music, Art, Physical Education and ReligiousEducation.OtherrequirementsincludeReligiousEducationandSexEducation.AprogrammeofPersonal,Social,HealthandCitizenshipEducation(PSHCE)isalsoprovidedand impacts on the whole curriculum. An Academy Council has been set up within theAcademy to help develop children’s independence, skills as a citizen andmember of thecommunityandalsotheirunderstandingofahealthylifestyleThis is now supported by the delivery of the SEAL Programme, a national initiative toaddressSocialandEmotionalAspectsofLearning.

AtPathways,teachersandclassroomsupportstaffworkcloselytogethersothatchildrenineachyeargroupfollowthesameCurriculumandarecoveringthesameareasof learning.Weconstantlystrivetoprovidethebestexperiencesthroughwhichchildrencanlearnwell.Eachchildisuniqueandhasindividualneedsandcapabilities.Weaimtomeeteachchild’sneedsthroughdifferentiatedworkwhichistailoredtotheindividuallearner.

Each day in the Academy there is dedicated time to address the children’s learning inreading,writing,speakingandlistening.TherearedailyPhonicsandguidedreadingsessionsaswebelievereadingandwritingarevitalaspectofchildren’slearning.However,EnglishisalsotaughtacrosstheCurriculum.Weaimtodevelopchildren’scommunicationskillsthroughspeechandwriting.WeencouragechildrentoapplytheirlearninginEnglishtoothersubjectareas.Webelievethatchildrenshouldbegivenopportunitiestoreadforpleasureaswellasinformationandouraimistoprovideinterestingbooksforalltoread.MathsWe aim to make Mathematics exciting and relevant to real life. We provide increasingchallengeandencouragechildrentosolveproblemsanddevelopthinkingskills.The school has recently introducedandexcitingnewcurriculumwhichwill hugely impactpositivelyonchildren’sprogress.ReligiousEducationandAssembliesReligiousEducationisofferedtoallpupilsaccordingtotheSheffieldAgreedSyllabus.REistaught as a separate subject. We also hold daily non-denominational assemblies whichinclude an act of collective worship. Through RE and assemblies, we aim to prepare ourchildren for their place in a diverse society and children are encouraged to express theirownideasandbeliefsandtodevelopattitudesoftolerance,understandingandsensitivitytowards those of others. The RE syllabus, assemblies and collective worship are non-denominational.

ReportingtoParentsParentsreceiveonedetailedwrittenreportpluspupilprofileseachhalfyearwhichcontainsthe results of both teacher assessments and tests. Parents also have an opportunity toattendthreeopeneveningswhentheycancomeintotheAcademytodiscusstheirchild’sprogress.Inaddition,parentsarewelcometodiscusstheirchildatanytimewiththeclass-teacherbyappointment.
Extra-CurricularActivitiesAwide rangeofextra-curricularactivitiesareavailableduring theyear thesemay includeart, sport,dramaandmuchmore. All childrenwillbeconsultedonanannualbasisas towhichactivitiestheywouldbemostinterestedinparticipatingin.
AcademyVisitsandVisitorsEducationalvisitsandvisitorsintotheAcademyareencouragedasawayofenhancingandenriching our creative curriculum. They allow children to gain first hand experiences ofpeopleandartefactsintheirnaturalenvironment.VisitshavetakenplacetoThornbridge(aresidential visit for Year 6), Whirlow Farm, Canon Hall, Abbey HouseMuseum, the localarea,theScienceMuseuminManchester,EdenCamp,theCinemaandtheLibrarytonamebutafew.

ChargesandRemissionsAswefavourtheenrichmentoftheCurriculumthroughEducationalvisitsandanapproachto learning which values first hand experience, visits outside of the Academy areencouraged.InlinewithourinclusiveprinciplesitisnotthepolicyoftheAcademytochargefor any visits, although voluntary contributions arewelcomed.A charge for board canbemadeforresidentialvisits.FamiliesarealwayswelcomeintheAcademyandwehopeyouwill takeadvantageofthemany occasions you are invited to attend. There is a Calendar of events in place for thebeginningofeachAcademyyear.We believe that a good relationship involvingmutual trust and effective communicationbetweenhome and theAcademywill provide all of our childrenwith the best chance toreachtheirindividualpotential.Werecogniseandrespectparentsastheprimaryeducatorsoftheirchildren.We aim to support all parents and guardians to play an active role in their children’slearning.ParentsarewelcometovisittheAcademyandarefreetodiscussanyproblemsetc.withtheclassteacher,DeputyHeadteacherandHeadteacher.It ishelpfultohaveanappointmenttoensurethattheteacherhastimetotalkandlistentoyou.We also welcome parents as volunteers. We have a very successful ‘army’ of readingvolunteerswhoaremakingarealdifferenceacrosstheAcademy.Manyparentshavelotsofskillswhichwouldbenefitallofourchildren.PleasecontacttheacademyifyouwouldliketohelpintheAcademy.Wewillkeepyouwell-informedofeventstakingplacethroughourregularnewsletter.Parentsarealsoinvitedtoassembliesandconcertsatdifferenttimesoftheyear.At the beginning of each term/topic a Curriculum overview map is sent to parents andcarerstoinformthemofdifferentaspectsoflearningtheirchildwillbeundertakingduringthecomingweeks.Ifanyonehasanyproblemsaccessingtheinformationthenwearealsohappy to help. We are keen for parents to come into Academy to help with differentactivities.

FamilyLearningActivities/AdultEducationThere are a number of adult education opportunities run at Pathways Academy forparents/carersandadultsfromthecommunity.Theseareorganisedbytheacademy.
Homework
Your child will be given homework in accordance with guidelines recommended by thegovernment.Thismaybereadingathome,learningnumberfactsortablesorundertakingresearch for a project. Homework is intended to be challenging but fun and is set toreinforceprevious learning. If you canhelp your childwith his or her homework thiswillreallymakeadifferencetohowquicklyandhowwelltheycompletetheactivity.Childrenarerecognisedandrewardedforreturningtheirhomeworkeveryweek.ParentPartnershipandeffectiveinvolvementofparentsisfundamentaltothesuccessof
theAcademy.
AcademyUniformWe believe that children benefit from feeling a sense of belonging and we believe thatwearing theAcademy’s distinctive uniformhelpswith this and helps develop a feeling ofprideinourfantasticAcademycommunity.Therefore,AcademypolicysetbyGovernors,isthatuniformiscompulsoryforallchildren.ThisprepareschildrenforsecondaryAcademy.OuruniformwhichhasthePathwaysAcademylogoonconsistsof:

AttendanceAttendance at the Academy is vital for a child’s development, both personally andacademically, so we take a pro-active approach to attendance. Our Attendance Officer,Mrs.StellaHoar,iskeentoworkalongsideandsupportanyfamilieswhoarestrugglingwithattendance.WealsohaveanewmemberofstafftohelpwithournewEasternEuropeanfamilieswhohavelittleornoEnglish.MissEugeniaKamozinovaishelpingfamilieswithtranslationandattendance.

Unexplainedorlengthyabsencesaretakenseriouslyandarereportedto,andfollowedupby,theEducationWelfareOfficerwhofollowsupabsencesfortheLEAandalsodealswithpersistentlateness.Please ensure your child arrives at the Academy on time. Children who arrive at theAcademybeforethestartoftheAcademydayarewelcometoattendourpopularBreakfastClub.Please inform the Academy by letter and by telephone, if possible, on the first day ofabsence,givingthereasonfortheabsence.Thiswillthenbemarkedasauthorised,unlessthereisanongoingproblemwithattendance.TheAcademypolicyisthatleaveofabsencefor family holidays in term time is discouraged and unauthorised other than exceptionalcircumstances.TheAcademyisunabletoauthorisemorethan10dayswithinanyoneAcademyyear. Thereareother criteriawithin theAcademypolicy and this information iscirculatedtoparentsannually.

ComplaintsAllcomplaintsaretakenseriouslyandshouldinitiallybeaddressedtotheHeadteacherwho,ifunabletoresolvethesituation,willsupplyanamedmemberofthegovernanceteamforfurthercontact.We aim to dealwith your complaints in a caring and effectivemanner. Any concerns orcomplaintsyoudohaveshould,inthefirstinstance,willbedealtwithinformally.Ifyouarenot satisfied after speaking to the teacher,wewould invite you to speakwith the phaseleader,whowillthenescalatethecomplainttotheDeputyHead,andeventheHeadteacherifnecessary.AfullcopyoftheAcademy’sComplaintsPolicycanbeobtainedfromtheAcademyoffice.
SecurityFor your child’s safety we have locks on all the doors and closed-circuit televisionmonitoringthemainentrancetheAcademy.AllvisitorsmustreporttotheAcademyofficeandallstaffareawareofproceduresrelatingtosecurity.
PastoralCareandChildProtectionPastoral care of Children requires on the part of staff the highest standards ofprofessionalismintermsofconduct,expectations,supervision,teachingandvigilance.Welink our behaviour strategies to the SEAL programme and also our P.R.I.D.E. policy. WeactivelyteachandaddressSocialandemotionaldevelopment.Staffarerequiredtofollowchildprotectionproceduresintheidentificationandnotificationof suspected abuse and unexplained injuries. In such cases the welfare of the child isdeemedtobeparamount.Allconcernswillbereportedtothechildprotectionofficer(theHeadteacher)andwillthenbereportedtotheappropriateauthority.AfullcopyoftheChildProtectionPolicyisavailablefromtheAcademyoffice.DesignatedSafeguardingLeadisJaneBrailsfordwho is supportedby twoDeputy Safeguarding Leads,AmandaSmithandZardaFazil.ThesestaffworkcloselytogetherregularlyattendingrelevanttrainingandreceivinginformationregardingChildProtection.ThisisarequirementoftheChildrenAct1989andsubsequentlegislation.The Academy has a responsibility to collate basic information (such as who has parentalresponsibility for a child), and to pass this information to the relevant agencies if sorequested.Intheeventofaninvestigationintosafeguardingissues,theAcademyhasadutytoco-operatewiththeinvestigatingagenciestopromotethewelfareofthechild.

EqualOpportunitiesEachchildistreatedequallyandisgivenopportunitiestotakepartinallaspectsofAcademylife.WedonottolerateanyformofdiscriminationandwehaveadutytorecordandreportanyracialabusetotheLocalAuthorityonatermlybasis.GiftedandTalentedPupilsStaff identify pupils who have a higher level of ability than themajority of children in aparticularareaofstudy.Theseidentifiedpupilshaveextendedactivitiesinordertodevelopthis potential as fully as possible. Theymay also have opportunities to work in targetedgroupswithotherablechildrenfromacrossSheffield.
SpecialEducationalNeedsWebelieve in an inclusive education for all children. Sometimes childrenmayexperiencedifficultiesinlearningorbehaviour.Ifthisisthecase,wewilltalktoparentsaboutthebestwaystoovercomethedifficulties.Initiallywemightchangeourapproachtoteachingandlearningforthechilde.g.presenttheworkinsmallstepsorusespecialistresources.IfnecessarywemayaskforhelpandadvicefromspecialistteachersoutsidetheAcademy.Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) provision has a high profile within theAcademy and we are committed to enabling each child to reach his/her potential. TheAcademyfollowstherequirementsoftheEducationAct1993alongsideCodePractice2014.Earlyidentificationofanychild’sspecialneedsisveryimportantsothatitcanbeaddressedand parents, carers or staffmay raise initial concerns. However concernsmay be raised,parentsarealwaysinvolvedthroughouttheprocessandtheprogressofpupilswithSEN’dismonitored through regular reviews. In the Academy, the InclusionManager co-ordinatesSEN’dandwillbehappytoprovideparentswithanyinformationandfurtherdetailsoftheCodeofPractice.

OurteachingstaffareskilledandexperiencedinworkingwithchildrenwithSEN’d.Wealsoemployaninvaluableteamoflearningsupportstaff,includingtwoSeniorLearningMentorswhogivefurthersupporttosmallgroupsortopindividualchildren.RaceEqualityAsamulti-culturalAcademywithmembersofourcommunityjoiningusfromallaroundtheworldwetaketheissuesregardingraceequalityveryseriously.Everyoneisofequalvalueanddeserves equal levels of respect.We aim to prepare all our children for lifewithin amulti-culturalsociety.DiversityIsCelebratedSinceMay2002 theAcademyhasbeen statutorily required tohave a policy document in place, explaining our approach topromotingracialequalityandpreventingracialharassmentanddiscrimination.
ThepolicyinfluencesourworkintheAcademyandwetakeaproactiveapproach,addressingissuesthroughcircletime,assemblyandourPSHCEwork.

OurpromotionofBritishvaluesatSchool
ThegovernmentsetouttheirdefinitionofBritishvaluesinthe2011PreventStrategy.Thesewere reinforced in September 2014 due to recent events. These new regulations will sitalongsidetherequirementsoftheEqualitiesAct,whichalsoappliestoalltypesofschools.
Schoolswill be expected to focus on, and be able to show, how ourworkwith pupils iseffectiveinembeddingfundamentalBritishvalues.
