One of my favoritesthere is the Louisiana Salad, which I usually have a piece of salmon added to. I willhave that for lunch or dinner. All-Star Contemporary Jazz Group featuring: Jeff Lorber-piano & keys, EverettHarp-sax, & Chuck Loeb-guitar!

Playing music from their brand new CD "Jazz Funk Soul" on Shanachie Records!

Stretching the envelope has been Jeff Lorber’s strategy from the very beginning. Born inPhiladelphia in 1952, Lorber began playing piano when he was just four years old. By his teenyears, he had hooked up with several local R&B bands, but his tastes trended more toward jazzwhen he studied at Berklee College of Music.

After college, he relocated to Portland, Oregon, where he formed the Jeff Lorber Fusion. Thegroup released their self-titled debut album in 1977, and quickly became one of the mostpopular acts in the jazz fusion scene, due in large part to relentless touring and a string ofartistically daring and commercially successful recordings.

After a brief but prolific stretch culminating with the highly successful Private Passionin 1986,Lorber took a break from recording his own material, opting instead to do session work andproduce other artists. He resumed his solo career in 1991 with Worth Waiting For.

Lorber has been just as prolific and innovative in the new century as he was in the last, withrecordings on Narada (Philly Style, Flip Side), Blue Note (He Had a Hat), and most recently Peak(Heard That).

Everette Harp started playing piano at two, and began practicing saxophone at the age of four. The youngest of the eight children of a minister, gospel music was one of Harp’s earliestinfluences. Harp started playing jazz in high school, and graduated from North Texas StateUniversity with a music major in the early 1980s. Harp moved to Los Angeles in 1988. Heimmediately toured briefly with Teena Marie, and then internationally with Anita Baker. In 1992,Harp released his self-titled solo debut.

Soon after, Harp played at the Montreux Jazz Festival, and began weekly appearances on TheArsenio Hall Show. He continued to play & tour with notables, including Chaka Khan, GeorgeDuke, Anita Baker, Kenny Loggins, Marcus Miller, and Dianne Reeves. Harp is also known for hisperformances with Marcus Miller, David Sanborn and Wayne Shorter.

In recent years Harp has reduced his side gigs to focus on his solo career.

More than just a jazz guitar player, Chuck Loeb is the consummate musician. In a career thatspans four decades, he has proven himself to be a versatile composer, arranger and producer ina wide range of musical styles and contexts.

Throughout his early years in the Big Apple, Loeb began making a name for himself as a sidemanwith jazz luminaries such as drummer Chico Hamilton, Latin percussionist and bandleader RayBarreto, flutist Hubert Laws.

Concurrent with his solo career, Loeb also recorded with Metro, a four-piece contemporary jazzcombo that included keyboardist Mitch Forman, drummer Wolfgang Haffner and a succession ofbassists: Anthony Jackson, Victor Bailey and Mel Brown. In addition, Loeb played with theFantasy Band.

After nine years and seven solo albums, Loeb left Shanachie and joined Heads Up in late 2006.

JANIS SIEGEL $20.00 Wednesday 12/03 7:30 pm Buy Tickets

Presented in Association with the Tri-C Jazz Program.

Vocalist of Manhattan Transfer Fame returns to Nighttown!

Featuring: Joe Hunter-piano, Peter Dominguez-acoustic bass, DanFernandez-drums. And special guests include Tri-C Vocal Students.

Over the past three and a half decades, the voice of Janis Siegel -- a nine-time Grammy winnerand a seventeen-time Grammy nominee -- has been an undeniable force in The ManhattanTransfer's diverse musical catalog. Alongside her career as a member of this 36-year musical

Transfer's diverse musical catalog. Alongside her career as a member of this 36-year musicalinstitution, Siegel has also sustained a solo career that has spawned more than a half dozenfinely-crafted solo albums and numerous collaborative projects, amassed a large international fanbase and garnered consistently high critical praise.

Siegel learned about the music business at an early age. By the time she was 12, she wassinging with an all-girl pop trio called The Young Generation. "When Motown became popular, Ifell head over heels for it, as well as for people like Aretha Franklin. And of course, I went insaneover the Beatles. But I also loved Barbra Streisand. And living in Brooklyn, I saw a lot of Broadwayshows too." On the jazz side, she remembers John Coltrane as her musical idol during her highschool and college years. But it was a chance encounter that steered her into The ManhattanTransfer.

Janis Siegel met Tim Hauser at a party, and he asked her to sing on some demos he'd beenworking on. Soon Hauser invited Siegel to join a four-part vocal group that he'd been trying toreconstruct. When she joined Hauser, Laurel Massé and Alan Paul, the Manhattan Transfer wasborn. The group's self-titled debut album in 1975 ushered in a renaissance in vocal-based musicand marked the opening chapter of the foursome's quarter-century-plus success story.

Over the years, Janis' unmistakable voice has become one of the group's most recognizabletrademarks. She sang lead on some of the Transfer's biggest hits, such as "Operator," "ChansonD'Amour," "Twilight Zone," "Birdland," "Ray's Rockhouse," "Sassy," "Spice of Life," "Mystery,"and "The Boy from N.Y.C." She also gained a reputation as a vocal arranger by writing five of thecharts for the group's acclaimed masterwork, Vocalese, seven charts for the group's Grammy-winning album Brasil, and won a Grammy herself in 1980 for her arrangement of "Birdland." In1993, she and her Manhattan Transfer colleagues received their honorary doctorates from theBerklee School of Music, and in 1999 they were among the first class of inductees into the VocalGroup Hall of Fame.

But Siegel has been riding a dual career track for nearly two decades. She launched her solocareer in 1982 on Atlantic Records with the release of Experiment in White produced by JoelDorn. Her followup solo effort, At Home, earned her a Grammy nomination in 1987 for BestFemale Jazz Vocal.

Janis continues to tour with The Manhattan Transfer and her own band, with her newest solorelease “NightSongs” on Palmetto Records this past September. This latest project, her first self-produced venture, is a collection of late night love songs, features some of N.Y.’s most inventivemusicians.

CHRISTINE LAVIN & DON WHITE$20.00 Sunday 12/07 7:00 pm Buy Tickets

Singer/Songwriter and Comedienne extraordinaire Christine Lavin back atNighttown!. With very special guest singer/songwriter Don White.

Leave your worries at the doorstep and join Christine Lavin and Don White as they present anight of comedy unlike any other, The Funny Side of the Street: A Night of Brighter Laughter.

Since 2008 these two veteran performers have brought their unique brand of clean and hilariousmusical comedy to audiences across the US proving night after night that comedy can be smart, friendly, and breathtakingly funny without being vulgar or pejorative. This is a show for anyonewho wants to laugh, whether it’s a group of friends or a family gathering, and feel good on theirway out of the venue.

Since emerging from the NYC singer/songwriter scene in the late 1980s, (along with SuzanneVega, Shawn Colvin, John Gorka, etc), Lavin quickly established herself as an entertaining tourde force. Quick on her feet, witty, insightful, engaging, she remains one of the most popular andrespected performers in the genre.

Christine has also been at the forefront of finding and promoting extraordinary new talent. Shefounded a songwriter's retreat on Martha's Vineyard, the On a Winter's (and Summer's) Nighttours), The Four Bitchin' Babes, Laugh tracks among many other projects, in the processreleasing more than 10 compilations CDs, as well as more than 20 of her own.

Her co-conspirator, Don White, is the latest artist that Christine has championed. “He’s such anoriginal; I call him sometimes a ‘blue collar intellectual,’” Lavin says. “Don has extremely highstandards when it comes to what he does onstage. And he hits a grand slam every time. Thefirst time we worked together he opened for me and it’s the only time in my entire career that Iopened with a ballad because he was so funny, the audience was so laughed out.”

A product of the rich Boston Arts Scene of the 90s Don developed his songwriter/performerchops in the same Club Passim/ Olde Vienna Kaffehaus scene that produced Dar Williams, MartinSexton, Lori McKenna and Vance Gilbert. LOREN AND MARK $20.00 Friday 1/16 8:30 pm Buy Tickets

International Guitar Duo and proteges of Tommy Emmanuel play Nighttown! Featuring: Loren Barrigar (Syracuse, NY) & Mark Mazengarb (New Zealand). With Special Guest opening act guitarist Dan Bankhurst.

“Fresh and Exciting… these guys ROCK!!”Tommy Emmanuel, Australian guitar virtuoso

Loren and Mark first met in 2005 when they spent a few days working with the great TommyEmmanuel at Jorma Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Ranch guitar camp. Mark was a college kid, justcompleting his degree in classical guitar at the University of North Carolina; Loren was already aseasoned performer, but it was his first serious look at acoustic guitar. After the workshop, Markvisited Loren and they spent some time picking guitar – and picking each other’s brains.

In 2009 they met again in Nashville at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society (CAAS) convention,an international gathering of hundreds of guitarists. That set the stage for the 2010 CAASconvention where they were on the schedule of performers. Though they were not originallylisted to play on the big Saturday night finale, they were added to the show due to populardemand from those who heard them throughout the week.

Loren and Mark's varied repertoire of original and arranged music consists of stunning guitarduets as well as songs, giving them a wide appeal.

Their music is influenced by Bluegrass, Jazz and Western; their style of guitar playing is largelybuilt upon the thumb-picking techniques pioneered by guitar greats Merle Travis, Chet Atkinsand Jerry Reed, and their songs feature Lorens superb vocals and some beautiful harmoniesfrom Mark.

Barrigar and Mazengarb have toured extensively in both the USA and in Europe, and their fanbase is rapidly expanding. They recorded their first album together the summer of 2011 whichwon a SAMMY (Syracuse Area Music Awards) for Best Album at the Northeast Music IndustryConference, and their second album Onward also won a SAMMY. The title track 'Onward' wonfirst place at the International Acoustic Music Awards (IAMA) for Best Instrumental. Their mostrecent album is live from their 2013 tour of Europe

Loren and Marks live performances feature not only their spectacular technical grasp of theguitar, but also their outstanding musicality and ability to be spontaneously creative. Theinteraction between the two musicians is as much a feature of their shows as is the world-classguitar playing that they both display.
