Improved fuel efficiencyFuel efficiency is a combination of many different factors, some of which the driver can control together with others he cannot. Controllable factors include vehicle specification, good maintenance and driving style, while non-controllable factors such as weather and route will also have a high impact on fuel efficiency. The driver plays a major part in fuel efficiency and the Reports available in the Fuel & Environment module will help identify those areas that potentially could be improved.

Better vehicle utilisationWith the Positioning module you are able to identify the vehicles current locations as well as the available driver times, enabling you to optimise your traffic planning.

Reduced administrationA combination of the Dynafleet modules will provide you with core data needed to administrate your fleet and drivers efficiently. As an example the Driver Times module can aid you in your driver salary calculations and administration, with weekly automated driver activity reports based on tachograph login-logout.

The Dynafleet App for Android and AppleThe Dynafleet reports contain a lot of detailed information. The Dynafleet App uses the data from these reports and presents them in a simple format, grouping them into just four different areas and awarding points for good habits.

The app will also produce an overall Fuel Efficiency score, which has to be above 80 in order to be green. Scores between 60 - 80 will be yellow, indicating some room for improvement, and scores below 60 will be in red, showing definite scope for improvement. The general rule when using the app is to try to make sure the driver achieves a ‘Green’ score in as many of the parameters as possible. By doing this you can be sure you are getting the best possible fuel economy from your vehicles.

You can download the app yourself and log in with the same username and password that you use for Dynafleet Online. Your drivers can also download the app and log in with a ‘Driver Login’ which then allows them to see this information for themselves, and compare themselves in a ranking report with other drivers in the same fleet – although they will only be able to identify their own data – all other drivers will be anonymous.

Fuel & Environment is the Dynafleet module that will provide the vehicle and driver performance data. Under the Reports tab in Dynafleet online you are able to access the unique fleet information shown below.

An overview of fuel consumption, driven distance, emission levels and more.• Analyse how a specific driver performs on fuel efficiency.• Reports, showing areas for cost saving improvements.• Alerts if there are significant changes in fuel level due to a possible fuel theft.• Reports on emission levels that can automatically be sent to your personal email.• Driver support: detailed trip log for driver to follow-up fuel consumption,

idling, PTO, coasting etc.

Understanding the Report Headings: • Engine On time is the total time the engine has been running during the report period, as is the

Distance and Fuel used. The mpg value in the Overview report is the overall mpg simply calculated using the total fuel used (including idling) and the total distance travelled.

• Average Brake counter is the calculated average number footbrake applications per 100miles. A higher value here can indicate a more aggressive driving style, poorer anticipation. Comparing different drivers on a similar route and operation will show the drivers who have a more ‘sympathetic’ style, lifting off the accelerator well in advance of a road junction will result in less fuel being used and less wear & tear on the brakes etc.

Dynafleet Online OverviewDynafleet has three different core modules, Fuel & Environment, Driver Times and Positioning. There is a fourth optional module called Messaging which requires additional hardware.

• Average Stop value is a calculated average number of stops per 100 miles. Again better anticipation, backing off before a junction can mean the vehicle keeps moving, rather than driving up to a junction then braking to a stop. Every time you stop the vehicle means you need to get it moving again, using more fuel and more wear & tear on the vehicle, especially with a fully loaded vehicle.

• Idling is a key area – of course ANY time the vehicle is at a standstill with the engine running it is idling, so time at traffic lights, road junctions and queues will all count as idling, so it is inevitable that there will be some time recorded in this state. However what we are looking to eliminate is unnecessary idling – for example if the driver leaves the engine running whilst waiting for delivery notes, loading or unloading, or even just ticking over while he takes a break... all this is wasted fuel and needs to be kept to a minimum.

• Economy time is when the rev counter is in the green area on the driver display. In this area the engine is running at it most efficient, and this is where the needle needs to be when the vehicle is moving and the driver has his foot on the accelerator. Revving above the green area with the accelerator depressed is simply wasting fuel; the engine will not deliver any extra power in this state, but it will use more fuel!

Above Economy is when the needle is above the green area into the black. The ONLY time we want to see this is when using the Engine Brake – whilst the Engine Brake is being used the fuel supply to the engine is cut off, thus resulting in better fuel economy. Try to use the engine brake rather than the footbrake where possible – leave the stalk in the ‘A’ position during normal driving, move it to positions 1, 2 or 3 for additional braking force as needed but always remember to return it to the ‘A’ position afterwards.• Coasting is when the vehicle is moving, accelerator OFF and cruise control is not active. So again a gentler

driver style results in better efficiency, use the Eco Roll function as much as possible with the I-Shift in position A and the brake stalk in position A. A higher Coasting value will have a major positive effect on overall fuel consumption.

• Cruise control the correct use of the cruise control function will improve fuel consumption and we are looking for this to be as high as possible.

• Overspeed this is simply measuring time spent above a pre-set speed value defined in Dynafleet Online (NOTE it is NOT related to the vehicle speed limiter in the vehicle itself) The value in Dynafleet can be set by the customer/fleet manager as required.

• Top Gear in an I-Shift gear box the system will take care of this on its own, using the I-Shift in Auto is the best way to manage this.

• Engine Load this is another key area, time in this area is when using maximum power… So pulling away from standstill with a fully laden vehicle, climbing up steeper inclines etc will be recorded here. But also this can be a measure of excessive use of torque – starting off with the accelerator fully depressed instead of a more gentle approach using the middle third of the throttle position. Drivers with a ‘heavy right foot’ will show more time in this area and use far more fuel than a driver with a softer style.

The main message is to encourage the driver to have a gentle, sympathetic driving style, avoid harsh acceleration, plan well ahead and lift off the accelerator early. The Dynafleet reports will not produce results on its own: it is simply a tool to help build a picture of a driver’s individual driving style. There are no specific targets for any of the parameters here, driving is a habit and we are trying to change drivers with poor habits into better, more fuel efficient drivers. We can only achieve this with proper training – we need the drivers to understand the effects of poor driving styles otherwise nothing will change.

In order to support efficient transport planning, Driver Times instantly lets you know how much time each driver can spend on new assignments, based on the driving and resting times legislation. When used in conjunction with the Positioning module, hover the mouse over the vehicles position on the maps and you will see the driver’s current available driving time together with the time of his next possible infringement. Selecting the driver properties at the bottom of the screen once in Maps, you will see a snapshot of the drivers tachograph chart for the current period. In the report section it is also possible to create a detailed driver activity report, showing a particular driver or a group of drivers’ activity for the selected time period. In addition, by clicking on the driver activity tab you will have the option to select all drivers to view their driver activity for a selected period on one page, making it simple to manage your drivers’ hours. • You can remotely download tachograph data. • Issues an alert if a driver comes close to exceeding the permitted working limit. • Provides a basis for invoicing and calculating driver wages.• Minimizes the uncertainty meeting driver time regulations.• Reduces administrative work at the office.• Driver support: infringement mitigation and remaining driving time helps the

driver to plan driver times. System & Hardware Requirements for remote tachograph download: • Microsoft Windows XP Operating System and Internet Explorer*• USB smart card reader using standard Windows drivers or simpler Windows compliant

smart card reader• Java installed and updated with minimum security settings enabled. NOTE: When

using Windows version 7 you will need both 32 bit and 64 bit Java installed. For further information regarding tachograph downloads please separate fact sheet available on Dynafleet Help pages online.

The third Dynafleet module allows you to locate your vehicles wherever there is a GSM network coverage (mobile phone connectivity). Vehicle positions are updated automatically according to a tracking pattern which is configurable by the system administrator, alternatively you may request instant position update by clicking on the vehicle from the list on the left hand side in Dynafleet Online and selecting ‘New Position’. The vehicles latest position is displayed in the maps together with the drivers name and remaining available driving times. Historical positions* are also available by selecting the desired time frame in map settings. The Positioning service also allows you to efficiently route plan ahead of time, taking into account current traffic conditions by choosing the option to show live traffic information in the maps. Google route planning is also possible, either by postcode or simply selecting the point of location in the map.

• Simplifies route planning and makes it easier to find the fastest route to your destination.

• Shows the truck’s exact location down to street level.• Provides information about times, drivers, speed, load and vehicle type.• Navigation points in Dynafleet online can be sent to the navigation

system in the truck.• You can let your customers monitor their cargo progress via a specific

customer Dynafleet login.• Driver support: geofence activation pop-up for geographically related

information to the driver and back office.

*Historical tracking data is stored and available for the maximum of 3 months.
