involved in a range of activities and workshops designed to

develop and enhance their leadership skills. I’m sure the

students got a lot out of the day and enjoyed the participation.

School Camp Years 3-6

To date we have had only a few responses for the Year 3-6

camp at Lake Ainsworth. The school has to confirm our booking

and pay a deposit by next Friday. We understand that it is a

large expense for families. We are looking at ways to reduce the

cost with the assistance of the P & C. We need to have definite

expression of interest note and indicate whether your child in

years 3-6 will be attending or not.

2014 Enrolments

We are taking enrolments now for Kindergarten 2014. It has

been shown that the best form of advertising is word of mouth,

CROSS COUNTRY Following a combined carnival at Stokers Siding last term a team of Duranbah athletes travelled to Bogangar to compete in the Murwillumbah District Cross Country event. The course organised for the event included a variety of surfaces. Such as forest, grassed fields and a Ti Tree swamp. Rain the previous night added character. Competitors included Zac, Jack, Cody, Kenta, Callan, Koby, Jasmin, Taysha and Indiana. Congratulations to all of these students who represented the school commendably. Congratulations to Kenta who succeeded in progressing to the next stage the Far North Coast Cross Country to be held at Bangalow. A huge thank you to parents, Vanessa, Kentleigh, Danielle, Dee and Nami who not only assisted with transport but kindly packed up the equipment. K/1/2 NEWS Over the past three weeks, Duranbah K-2 class has been working on a ‘Community Helpers’ unit of work. The focus of this week is firefighters. The K-2 class was lucky enough to get Laurie, a Federal Firefighter to come into the school and discuss how he helps the community. In full uniform, Laurie entertained the kids and explained what protective

gear he wears and the equipment he uses to help him perform his job. To conclude this great afternoon, children were given the opportunity to participate in a real life firefighter duty. The K-2 class assisted our firefighter roll out his 30 metre fire hose and together we rolled it back up, similar to the procedures followed in a real fire emergency. On behalf of the K-2 class and Duranbah Public School, we would like to thank Laurie for providing us with an insight on the duties of a fire fighter. The children had a great afternoon and enjoyed the valuable experiences provided by one of our highly respected community helpers.
