Duomo of Milan or cathedral of Milan is located in historic centre of milan especific in the piazza del
duomo and is one of the most beautiful cathedrals of the world.
The impressive Duomo is the symbol of Milan and their proportions are immense.Dominates the square that
haves his name (Piazza del Duomo in italian ) and from their roofs are contemplates a wonderful panoramic
view of the city.
Dazzling and ethereal: The Duomo is full
of Gothic sculpture, gargoyles , pinnacles and
spiers, to the point of receiving comments
as derogatory ('' looks like a hedgehog,'' said D.H.
Lawrence) as laudatory ('' is a poem in marble '', according to mark
twain). Worth climbing to the roof (by stairs or lift ) to enjoy the beautiful view
of milan, on clear daysyou can see the Swiss Alps.
Controversial building: Builing work began in 1386 under the auspices
of ambitious gian galazzo visconti, who was
determined to build the largest temple in
Italy was consecrated in 1418,the continuous
building incomplete for four centuries more. the facade was begun in the
seventeenth century, but concluded so
great controversy was not completed until 1812
under the rule of Napoleon.
Through darkness: the Duomo is 157 meters long,
33 wide at the ship and 92 transept, the roofs are
decorated with 2,245 statues, 135
spiers and 96 gargoyles and interior has the capacity
of 40,000 people. this madonnia traced
by a gilded copper statue of 1774.constantly with the gleaming white facade,
the interior is gloomy, impression accentuated by the moles of funerary
monuments and the 52 pillars that define its five
ships. between the monuments
and tombs highlights the extraordinary statue flayed Saint Bartholomew (1562).
