What is Duolingo?

• Duolingo is the world’s largest online language learning platform and the best new way to learn a language free

• Learning with Duolingo is both fun and interesting. Learners can earn points for correct answers, race against the clock, and level up.

• Duolingo currently offers more than 81 language courses across 37 languages.

• Before starting, download Duolingo on iOS or on android.

Login/sign up

1. Click get started, or if you have an account in Duolingo, you can login by pressing the 2nd option.

2. After clicking on get started, choose the language you want to learn.

3. Click on your appropriate reason as to why you are learning a language.

4. Create your daily goal!

5. Continue with facebook/google, or you can skip.

6. Choose your level of understanding of the language.

7. Take the test

8. Create your profile!

How does Duolingo Work?

As you complete your questions, you will unlock various in-

game rewards and get a chance to compete with people

around the world! Collect trophies, streaks, and golden crowns

with Duolingo!

Keeping Learners motivated

Duolingo Stories

Duolingo Stories are a fun and engaging way to earn XP through exercises focused on reading and listening comprehension. As you make your way through each set of Stories, you'll be challenged and entertained. You can access these amazing Stories by tapping the Stories tab (book icon) on the iPhone app, Android app, and mobile/desktop web.

Currently, you can enjoy these stories in the following languages:

• Portuguese, Spanish, French and German for English speakers

• English for Portuguese speakers

• English for Spanish speakers

• English for Chinese speakers

Important things to note:

• In order to access Stories, you'll need to reach the 1st checkpoint in your tree

• You can repeat any gilded/completed Stories

• Duolingo Stories are NOT available offline

• Duolingo Stories are NOT eligible for XP Boost (available every Thursday in the mobile shop)

Adding Friends on Duolingo

You can follow anyone you like on

Duolingo. You can also invite friends

to join. When you follow someone,

they will show up on your Friends

List, and you can compare your

weekly/monthly/all time XP. On the

web, you can view your Friends List

on the homepage.

How to Find/Invite Friends?

At the bottom of the leaderboard, there are a few buttons. You can find your Facebook friends by clicking on "Find more friends on Facebook. You can also send someone an invite via email by clicking on "Send invite."If your friend already uses Duolingo and you know their username or account email address, you can search for them within Duolingo.

How to Follow friends?You can also follow people you like on Duolingo. Simply click on their name in the forums or search for

them. When you land on their profile page, click the "Follow" button to add them to your Friend List. They do not have to accept your request. They can also follow you back if they want to. If they block you, you can no

longer add, follow or contact them.

NOTE: If you cannot follow others, your account may be inactive. Please complete a lesson

What can I do with Duolingo for Schools?

Track Student Progress:Duolingo for Schools is built in a way that allows you to track several Duolingo learners at the same time. You can see their XP (points), streak days and timestamps of recent activity. You can also see how far into the course they are by clicking on “Course progress” on the sidebar.

Explore Course

Enter your classroom and select

“Curriculum” on the sidebar on the

left.

• You will be able to explore lists of

words

• Try a sample lesson to see what

your students will see (although

theirs will be adapted to their

unique word strength)

Classroom Activites

Check out the classroom activities Duolingo have created especially for you. To access them, select “Class activities” from the sidebar on the left. There you’ll be able to access games such as “Flashcards” and “Power practice.” These are tailored to your students’ average level and are fun for everyone!
