Community Helpers Day• As a culminating activity to a unit on Community Helpers at Dunwoody Elementary,
the Kindergarten students were treated to a morning of sirens, red lights, toothbrushes and dental floss by some of our neighboring community helpers. Dr. Christine Scott's Pediatric Dentistry, DeKalb County Fire Department (Station 18) and Dunwoody Police Department visited DES to speak to the students about safety and good health. The students had the opportunity to honk horns, sit in the back of a police car, and practice proper brushing techniques. Other visitors included the MARTA Police Bomb Squad and K-9 Unit, United States Marines and the Department of Transportation HERO and Rescue Unit. "Gizmo" the bomb robot shook hands with students and "Buc" the police dog demonstrated good listening skills by following commands given by his owner.
• The goal of Community Helpers Day is to provide the students with a positive hands-on opportunity to meet invaluable members of the community that can be of assistance if necessary.
• This was a successful, educational, FUN and MEMORABLE event.
