PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Season’s Greetings! As I write this in October, on the heels of Thanksgiving and in anticipation of Halloween, our Fall programs are underway and the renovations of two of our kitchens are nearing completion. We expect the kitchens to be up and running in time for Winter programs. Look for exciting new cooking programs in this Guide. Additionally, the kitchens will be available to rent with their adjacent room. Details can be found on our website.

Visit our website at https://dunbarcentre.org/dunbar/ to register online and check for updates and upcoming events. Our new interactive program guide is user-friendly with program descriptions directly linked to the ActiveNet registration page.

We will once again be hosting a Lecture Series with Langara College faculty members. Check inside for details.

I’m very pleased to announce that our games room is now officially called the Gerry Massing Room. Come inside to see the plaque and photo commemorating Gerry, our much-loved past president who left us too soon. The DCCA Board of Directors is working on a new strategic plan, to update our mission and goals. We welcome suggestions and feedback. Let us know what you’d like to see offered at Dunbar Community Centre by completing our Needs Assessment Survey on our website (under News) or email me at: [email protected]. I look forward to seeing you around the Centre.

All the best,

Peggy Griesdalepresident, dunbar community centre association

The Orff Method is a fun-filled well established method for teaching the basics of music such as: reading notes, learning to match pitch, keeping the beat, playing in an ensemble etc. Orff philosophy combines the elements of speech, rhythm, movement, dance and song. Composer Carl Orff developed the method in the 1920s and it has gained worldwide popularity. Tonia has been teaching the Orff method at various schools and institutions around Vancouver for many years and she will keep your little ones singing and dancing!
