  • COVID -19 Update Thredbo

Thredbo Mountain Bike Park is now closed for the season. Thredbo Leisure Centre is also closed and we expect to re-open for the winter season. Thredbo strongly urges all guests to follow the government directives regarding non-essential travel and social distancing for their own safety and for others. Essential services within the Thredbo Village remain open.

At this point they are continuing with the plan to open for the winter 2020 snow season. In compliance with the Government’s restrictions they have needed to make some changes to June accommodation bookings.

Hello fellow ski bunnies, club members, isolation buddies!

Welcome to 2020 – we say that with excitement but also with an ounce of trepidation knowing what the first few months of 2020 have held so far,. However, welcome to 2020, our first issue of the Dump! During these uncertain times we thought we would get the issue out a little bit earlier because let’s be honest, isolation life can be lonely and we need that community spirit to get us through and something to look forward too!

We hope everyone is staying safe and both Pip and I look forward to seeing you all once this crisis cools down.

  • What has been happening since the last Dulmison COVID-19 email?

The Board and Lodge Committee (supported by the COVID-19 sub-committee) have continued to monitor the changing situation and work behind the scenes to protect the clubs’ interests while also working towards the return of lodge operations as soon as possible. Highlights include:

+ The Board is actively managing the clubs’ financial interests and legal obligations.

This includes modelling the financial impact of likely scenarios and managing contractual obligations such as leases and services. In parallel the Lodge Committee has been investigating potential changes to lodge operations that may be required to allow the Lodges to operate this year (if government restrictions and advice allows). Both groups have also been looking at opportunities to contain costs during this period. The club remains in a strong financial position and therefore is not presently financially threatened by the COVID-19 crisis.

    + The Lodges remain CLOSED.

And will remain so whilst government advice including travel restrictions are in place and will only be re-opened when safe to do so. It is premature to be making any substantial plans regarding re-opening of the lodges.

+ Winter booking requests can be placed.

However finalisation and payment is being deferred, until at least 21 May (deferred from previous date of 21 April). This situation will continue to be monitored and adjusted. An update on the cancellation policy will also be provided if and when invoices are issued.

+ Health and Safety remains paramount in any decision to re-open the lodges.

We are all keen to enjoy lodge life as soon as possible, but the health and safety of our members, guests and staff must be assured as priority.

+ A new date for the AGM is still to be finalised.

Options for a meeting supported by an online facility are currently still under consideration, given the likely extended period of social distancing requirements, however there remains constitutional issues to be addressed. Members will be informed by email of the new arrangements once confirmed.

Given the fluidity of the COVID-19 situation the club remains vigilant to the changes and will continue to adjust and keep members informed as things change.

    Robyn + Terry Vodka Quarantini

3 parts vodka, 1 part dry vermouth, 2 ice cubes, Pimento stuffed Olives or a lemon twist

Garlic, Sweet Potato + Chickpea Isolation Soup

+ 8 big cloves garlic, peeled and sliced

+ 1 onion, peeled and chopped

    + 30g olive oil

    + 350g cooked sweet potato

    + 400g can chickpeas, drained

    + 1 tsp salt

    + 2 tsp dried thyme

+ 2 tsp ground turmeric, or 3cm piece of fresh turmeric, peeled and grated

+ ½ tsp ground cayenne pepper

    + Lemon juice, to finish

    1. Put the garlic, onions and olive oil in a large saucepan with a splash of water: this creates extra steam to soften the garlic quickly. Bring to the boil then reduce the heat and cook for 5 minutes until the water has evaporated and garlic is very soft.

    2. Add the sweet potato, chickpeas, salt, thyme, turmeric, cayenne and 800ml water, then bring to the boil, cooking until the sweet potato has softened further. Remove from the heat and leave to cool slightly.

    3. Puree mixture in a blender until smooth. Return to the pan, adjust the consistency with extra water if needed, then heat until boiling. Divide among 4 to 6 bowls and add a drizzle of lemon juice and a couple of grinds of black pepper to each bowl.

We’ve managed to bribe the lodge managers to share some of their delicious recipes with us – enjoy!
