The Duke Directory of Buildings is a pictorial index of the major buildings on campus. It is intended to serve as a guide to basic building facts at Duke University.
The booklet is organized as a meline of the building and renova on work on the Duke Campus; the buildings are listed in order from newest to oldest. Buildings that have undergone a major renova on are listed in the year that the renova on work was completed and not the date of original construc on.
While the Offi ce of Horace Trumbauer, is solely responsible for the Gothic and Georgian core of Duke’s campuses, there have also been over 70 other architectural fi rms working to make Duke a func onal and beau ful campus. The directory contains over 200 building entries. Buildings that were designed and constructed as Trinity College are so noted.
The directory includes an index of design fi rms, an alphabe cal list of building by name, and sustainability cer fi ca on level.
The entries are organized per the following format and example.

As with the Directory of Buildings, this is an inventory of designed open spaces on Duke’s campus. It is not comprehensive to all landscapes on campus but, rather, a composite of those deemed most signifi cant from both a design and func onal perspec ve.
Since the Olmsted Brothers fi rm designed the East and West Campus Quadrangles in the 1920s, Duke has evolved as a collec on of memorable landscapes and open spaces that e together the buildings created during various eras of design. This sec on refl ects a meline depic ng the evolu on of the campus over the decades, during which dozens of landscape architectural fi rms from across the country contributed to the designed landscape we see today.
The spaces listed here are indicated on the locator map (page 14) and will be updated over me as landscapes are added and/or restored on campus.
The entries are organized per the following format and example.
