Everybody knows that Stoneleigh make a terrific Sauvignon Blanc. But did you also know that they make a wonderful Chardonnay as well? Chardonnay as a variety is also well suited to the colder temperatures of the Marlborough region, and this wine is a great example of what the region can produce. If you’re looking for something different there’s no need to switch brands, just switch varieties.

This Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is an absolute beauty. Vibrant fruit flavours of pineapple, passionfruit and paw paw explode on the palate of this well structured and flavoursome wine. If you’re a fan of food on the warm side, try it with a spicy Lamb salad.

Thanks to the Montana winery who planted the first Sauvignon Blanc vines in the 1970s the Marlborough district has become one of the most recognizable wine regions in the world.

It has over 23,000 hectares under vines which produces around 79% of New Zealand’s total wine production. The majority of plantings are located in the Wairau Valley while over the last decade there has been an increase of plantings in the slightly cooler Awatere Valley.

Although the climate is relatively cool, the area is one of the sunniest and driest places in New Zealand which makes for a great long and slow ripening period. While there is no doubt that the distinctive pungency and zesty fruit flavours of Sauvignon Blanc have captured the interest of consumers, other varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir also thrive in this cool climate and environment.
