• Symbol Search Tool, located in the Docking Panel Toolbar (see diagram).
• Symbol format is RootMonthYear. Root symbols used in the following examples: QCL = NYMEX Crude Oil, QRB = NYMEX Rbob, @C = CBOT Corn).
• Absolute (hardcoded) month/year, does not roll. Ex: QCLZ16, @CN16.
• Relative (alias) rolling contracts, roll to next contract upon expiration. Type the Root symbol followed by “@” and a number, @1 for the current contract, @2 for the next contract, etc. Ex: QCL@1 or @C@3.
• Futures chain, type the Root symbol and press the [F3] key. Ex: QCL[F3] or @C[F3]. Enters them as relative so they automatically roll upon expiration. To chain a specific number of contracts, type the Root symbol, followed by a space, the number of contracts, and press [F3]. Ex: QCL 12[F3] will display the first twelve crude contracts. They automatically roll upon expiration.
• Expired historical futures contract. Type the Root symbol, followed by the four digit year, followed by month code. Works ONLY in history type Windows, i.e. Chart, Tabular, Season, etc. Ex: QCL2010Z, @C1998N.
• Most actively traded contract. Type the Root symbol followed by @A. Ex: QCL@A, @C@A.
• Free-form functions. Use symbols, mathematical operators (+ - / *), parenthesis, and numbers. Ex: QCL@1/42, (@CZ16+@CN17)/2.
• Continuous Contracts. Type the Root symbol followed by @C. Every day represents the price of the contract that was the front month contract on that day. Ex: QCL@C (charts all front month contracts from today back).
– Forward Continuous contract. Ex: QCL@C5 (charts the 5th month contract from today back).
– Shift Expiration. Moves expiration date backward X number of days.
– Ex: QCL@C{05 (will move the expiration shift back by 5 days). Supported intervals: 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30, 40.
– Single-month filtered continuous contract: this will display only the month that you select rather than all prompt months. Ex: QCL@CZ (displays ONLY the December continuous contracts).
• Exchange Traded Spreads– Absolute contracts. Ex: QCLZ15QCLF16, @CZ15@CN16.
– Relative contracts. Ex: QCL@1QCL@2, @C@1@C@3.
– Relative inter-commodity contracts. Ex: QRB@01QCL@01
– Relative ALL spreads: QCL[CTRL][F3].
– Relative CONTIGUOUS Spreads: QCL[SHIFT][CTRL][F3].
– Drag and drop from Symbol Search. Contracts will NOT roll at expiration.
– Copy and paste symbols from another quote sheet or application.
