We need your help this summer! Volunteering at the library is fun, great experience for future jobs, and can be counted as community service hours. Teens must be age 13-18 to volunteer. There are a variety of volunteer activities you can participate in this summer, including: Summer Reading registration, helping with children’s programs, taking pictures of library events, preparing craft projects, handing out prizes, reading stories to children, and more. Attached is an application; please be neat and complete. Be sure to review your summer schedule before committing to volunteer. All applications must be returned to the Youth Desk at the library by May 29. Please note that due to the overwhelming response we have had in the past, the number of volunteers we can accept for the summer is limited. All interested teens are encouraged to complete an application, how-ever turning it in does not guarantee a volunteer spot. We will evaluate all applications, and volunteers who have been accepted for summer 2013 will be contacted by June 3. Any teens that we do not have space for will be put on a waiting list to be contacted if additional volunteer opportunities become available. Besides volunteering, teens can get involved with the library in other ways this summer:

Sign up for our Teen Summer Reading Program to earn prizes for reading. The Teen Kick-Off is Mon-day, June 10, 6-7:45 p.m. Get a grand prize drawing bonus entry just for coming to the kick-off.

Join our Teen Advisory Group (meeting June 28, July 26 & August 23, 3-4 p.m.) to give us input on teen activities and materials in the library, participate in service projects, and more. TAG counts for volun-teer hours and members will also be invited to the volunteer party at the end of the summer.

Participate in our monthly Teen Book Club, which will be reading books from the Teens’ Top Ten List. The club first meets on Friday, June 28, 4-5 p.m. Sign up at the Youth Desk or give us a call.

Check out our other teen summer programs, including a hands-on circus skills workshop, altered book art, healthy cooking, City of Bones Party, and more.

Volunteer orientations will take place on June 6 and June 8. Accepted volunteers will be contacted with more details and are strongly encouraged to attend one of these sessions. A final volunteer schedule will be handed out at orientation. All summer teen volunteers will be rewarded with a Volunteer Appreciation Lock-in Party at the library, August 16-17. (Teens who do not wish to stay overnight in the library may still attend for part of the time.) Need more information or have questions? Call the Youth Desk at 517-321-4014 x3 or email [email protected].
