DSUMC Pathways School March 2019 Primer Dear Pathways Families, WOW…it’s March already?! Spring is such an exciting time with all the signs of change and new growth surrounding us in nature. It is no different at Pathways this time of year. The signs of growth and development we see in your children since the beginning of school become so evident to us as we move into these last three months of school. These internal and external signs are such great reminders to the faithfulness of God: how He is always at work behind the scenes and ordains the seasons of change, rest, and renewal for all of us! Enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year is now underway for current Pathways families, and opens to the public on March 12 th . You received a link to access the online registration tool by email on Feb. 26 th . If you are returning to Pathways next year, please register your child asap to ensure your desired class availability. Our next parent coffee will be Thursday, March 7 th and Friday, March 8 th from 8:30-9:30 in the Foundry. We will have a special, guest speaker that you won’t want to miss!! Dr. Angelique Millette (developmental sleep specialist and former Pathways parent) will share sleep strategies and techniques for the preschool family. Angelique will draw on her wealth of knowledge and experience to offer suggestions and answer questions that might make bedtime more peaceful and effective for your whole family! We have certainly felt the impact of the flu and other illnesses with students and staff. Please do all you can to protect your and your child’s health. Hopefully, a little time away will help as we can soon enjoy some rest and renewal during Spring Break, March 18 th -22 nd . Don’t forget to use that opportunity to give rest mats, lunch boxes, and back packs a thorough cleaning. Also make sure your child’s extra set clothes in his/her bag is complete, labeled, and fits! As always, thank you for sharing your precious children with us! Mrs. Raymond’s Science Scoop

Eagles and chicken eggs! During this short month we will still be able to do so many exciting things. We will be periodically observing our eagles in Decorah, Iowa and we will be putting our own chicken eggs into our incubators! The countdown to baby chick begins. We will all begin to explore rocks; some of us will simply be observing them and some of us will be creating! We will be having Discovery Days for our twos and amazing absorbing and diffusing flowers. Have a wonderful Spring Break!

Topic/Virtue - Battle Plan/Prayer

Verse: Never stop praying. 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Spring greetings, Pathways families! Though the weather is still chilly, we hear the birds singing and see the buds swelling on the trees. We will sing about nature this month, with the circle game “Bluebird Fly Through My Window” and the scale song “The Seed”. We’ll sing about all sorts of farm animals with “Had A Little Rooster” (and see if we can remember them all, in order.) We will playfully learn how to sight-read music with the game “Pig-Cow-Pony-Duck”. We will delight in nature while working on numbers 1-10 in “Over in the Meadow”. We will celebrate God’s beautiful creation with “Morning Has Broken”.

Name: Landi Russell di Donato Job at Pathways: I’m a two-year old teacher. I have the best, cutest, smartest class. I tell them how Alina’s smile melts my heart; how Nicholas loves Mack trucks and Lightning McQueen; how Madison has impeccable manners; how Steven is incredibly patient and thorough; how Bryan is so smart and catches on to new things quickly; and how I want to take Millie home with me just because she’s so much fun and has such a great attitude. How many kids do you have? What are their names? What’s one word you would use to describe each one? Veston - passionate. Kellan - dependable. Favorite quote: Not today, Zurg. Describe your first car and what you loved or hated most about it. My first car was Mona Monza. Mona was an awesome car. My daddy bought her for me in high school, and we had many exciting years together. My favorite Mona story is the time I was driving to my friend’s apartment to help her move. When I turned the corner toward her complex, the driver-side door flew off. It was still hanging by a few cables, but the hinges were broken. I didn’t have any extra money, so my friend and I reattached the door with wire clothes hangers. I couldn’t open or close the door, so I had to climb over the console and get out the passenger side every time I went anywhere. In her old age, Mona developed turbo, and I could fly down Lamar without touching the accelerator. She was a good old car.

Name: Natalie Hanel Job at Pathways: I teach the M-F PreK 4’s class. I get to work with the most amazing staff and families. We have fun and enjoy the love of learning. And we grow our faith and love for Jesus every day. How many kids do you have? What are their names, and use one word to describe them: Sophia (almost 6): spirited Everett (2): intuitive Favorite quote: Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…it’s about learning how to dance in the rain. Where was your first job? Le’ Ragg Rugs and Cowgirls and Lace in Dripping Springs. I assisted on the sales floor and helped with new inventory.

I am so blessed to be part of the incredible Pathways team! How many kids do you have? What are their names and how would you describe them? Aubrey (16): sweet social butterfly Colten (8): outgoing, warm, caring What’s your favorite famous or inspirational quote? “I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.” – Stephen Covey *this is a wonderful reminder around our house. Do you have a talent or hobby? My favorite hobby is painting. I also really enjoy glass etching and photography. I love learning and exploring new techniques in these areas every chance I get.

Millie loves to learn! She’s fabulous at numbers,

reading names and sign language, and she’s always eager to try new things. She has a great attitude no matter what we’re doing. That’s probably why her friends love playing with her so much. Everyday when Eli walks into our room I can’t wait to see

one of his LEGO toys or hear him talk about mummy’s, robots, and everything Stars Wars. He brings a sense of logical whimsy to our classroom. He is always up for a good story and down to tell one of his own. Our class would be lost without Eli and I thank God for him everyday.

Cash is our class energizer. He is quick to laugh, smile, and

get down and boogie. He knows the pledge of allegiance better than all and he is always ready to start our prayers. Cash is our resident super hero buff. His true superhero power is his giant heart and I thank God for him everyday. I wish you could all have the privilege to listen to their conversations. As you might guess they are never dull and will always bring a smile to your face. They are quite a pair!
