(a) What is data communication and networking? What are the components
required for data communication?
(b) What is the difference between bit rate and baud rate?
(c) What are different transmission impairment s present over a channel?
(d) For a channel of 1MHz bandwidth the SNR is 63. What is the capacity of
channel? If actual bit rate is 2Mbps less than capacity then what is the
approximate signal level for the channel?
(e) Differentiate between synchronous and asynchronous serial mode
transmission?
2.(a) Mention different layers of OSI model. (2)
(b) Describe the function of different layers of an internet model. (8)
3.(a) What do you mean by multiplexing? What are the different multiplexing
techniques? Differentiate between synchronous and statistical TDM. (5)
(b) Assume a voice channel occupies a bandwidth of 4kHz. We need to multiplex
12 voice channels with guard band of 500Hz using FDM. Calculate the required
bandwidth. (5).
