Heidi plays at D-Edge, Brazil 30/8, check out Hed Kandi at The Geisha, Shanghai 22/9, plus Richie Hawtin and Matador fill Copenhagen’s Culture Box 24/8 [[1L]] SEPTEMBER 2012 WWW.DONTSTAYIN.COM INTERNATIONAL Rest of the world The idyllic port city of Bodrum is known for its picturesque landscapes, historical structures and lavish, over-the-top nightlife, defined, at large, by the legendary Halikarnas Disco. This is a club famed for bringing the big boys out to play with megastars such as Mick Jagger, Michael Caine and Pamela Anderson all making appearances over it’s illustrious 30-year history. This summer, the Halikarnas has undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment. The iconic, open-air amphitheatre venue brings to mind some of the best classic Ibiza clubs before noise restriction laws caused them to become roofed in. In this case the state-of-the-art soundsystem bangs out the tunes while vodka-fuelled party goers dance beneath imposing white columns while watching the sun come up over Bodrum harbour. There’s also the underground Dragon Bar – a 300 capacity club room with stadium-quality sound – designed for the more discerning clubber. The spectacular light shows are designed by the people who illuminate the Chemical Brothers’ live shows and there’s even a secret VIP garden designed by Jade Jagger. Beyond its celebrity associations, Halikarnas is set to bring the kudos of the world’s biggest DJs to its turntables this season, inviting the likes of Above & Beyond, Paul Oakenfold, ATFC, David Morales, Dennis Ferrer and Boy George to welcome the eastern sunrise. Clubbers can expect to hear an eclectic mix of house, disco, break-beat and of course some quintessential Turkish tunes, paying between 50 Turkish Lira on a weekday and 60 on a weekend (approximately £15–22) to get inside the 5000 capacity club. And while the Jaggers may not be there every night, this is definitely the best place in Turkey to come and give it some swagger.
