Battery charger

Even if the UHARGE lamp is not lit. the buttery charger is not disconm:cted fron/the A(

power source (mains) as long as it is connected to the wall outlet (wall socket). If some

trouble occurs while using the battery charger, immediately shut off the power by

disconnecting the plug from the wall outlet (wall socket).

Internal memory and memory card back up

Do not turn ofl' the camera, rcmo',,e the battery pack, or remo',,e the memory

card while the access lamp is lit. Otherwise, the internal memory data or thememory card may be damaged. Be sure to make a backup copy to protect yourdata.

Functions built into this camera

This manual describes each of the functions of TransIErJet-compatiblc/incompatible devices, 1080 60i-compatible devices and 1080 50i-compatibledevices.

To check if your camera supports the TransfcrJet function, and whether it is a

1080 60i-compatible device or 1080 50i-compatible device, check for thefollowing marks on the bottom of the camera.

On database files

When you insert a memory c,rd without a database file into the camera and

turn on the power, parl of the memory card capacity is used to automaticallycreate a database file. It may take some time until you can perform the next

operation.

Notes on recording/playback

• To ensure stable operations of the memory card, vvc"recommend that you use

this camera to lk)rmat any memory card being used with this camera for thefirst time. Note that formatting will erase all data recorded on the memory

card. This data cannot be restored. Be sure to back-up any important data to a

PC or other storage location.• If you repeatedly record/delete images, fragmentation of data may occur on

the memory card. Movies may not be able to be saved or recorded. In such a

case, save your images to a PC or other storage location, then [Format].• Before you start recording, make a trial recording to make sure that the

camera is working correctly.• The camera is neither dust-proof, nor splash-proof, nor water-proof. Read

"Precautions" (page 26) before operating the camera.• Avoid exposing the camera to water. If water enters inside the camera, a

malfunction may occur. In some cases, the camera cannot be repaired.• Do not aim the camera at the sun or other bright light. It may cause the

malfunction of the camera.

• Do not use the camera near a location that generates strong radio waves oremits radiation. Otherwise, the camera may not properly record or play backimages.

• Using the camera in sandy or dusty locations may cause malfunctions.• If moisture condensation occurs, remove it before using the camera.

• Do not shake or strike the camera. It may cause a malfunction and you maynot be able to record images. Furlhermore, the recording media may become

unusable or image data may be damaged.• Clean the flash surface before use. The heat of flash emission may cause dirt

on the flash surface to become discolored or to stick to the flash surface,

resulting in insufficient light emission.96B

Notes on the LCD screen

• The LCD screen is manufactured using extremely high-precision technologyso over 99.99% of the pixels are operational for effcctive use. However,

some tiny black and/or bright dots (white, red, blue or green) may appear onthe LCD screen. These dots are a nomlal result of the manufacturing pa/cess,

and do not affect the recording.• If water droplets or tither liquids splash on the LCD screen and make it wet,

immediately wipe off the screen with a soft cloth. Leaving liquids on theLCD screen surface can harm the quality and cause a malfunction.

• Do not press against the LCD screen. The screen may be discolored and thatmay cause a malfunction.

Please use Sony genuine accessories

If you use accessories nmnufactured by companies other than Sony, this couldcause a camera trouble.

• Using other manufacturers' camera cases with magnets could cause a powersupply trouble.

On camera's temperature

Your camera and battery may get warm due to continuous use, but it is not amalfuuctiou.

On the overheat protection

Depending on the camera and battery temperature, you may bc unable torecord movies or the power may turn off automatically to protect the camera.

A message will be displayed on the LCD screen before the power turns off oryou call no longer record lnovies.

On image data compatibility

• Tile camera conforms with DCF (Design rule for Camera File system)universal standard established by JEITA (Japan Electronics and hlformation

Technology Industries Association).• Sony does not guarantee that the camera will play back images recorded or

edited with other equipment, or that tither equipment will play back imagesrecorded with the camera.

Notes when playing movies on other devices

• This camera uses MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 High Profile for AVCHD ikmnatrecordi ng.

Movies recorded in AVCHD format with this camera cannot be played bythe lkdlowing devices.

Other devices compatible with AVCHD format that does not support HighProfile

Devices incompatible with the AVCHD fommtThis camera also uses MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 Main Profile for MP4 format

recording.For this reasom movies recorded in MP4 format with this camera cannot be

played on devices other than those that support MPEG-4 AVC/H.264.• Discs recorded with HD image quality (high definition) can be played back

only on AVCHD fommt-compatible devices. DVD-based players or

recorders cannot play back HD image quality discs, as they are incompatiblewith the AVCHD format. Also, DVD-based players or recorders may fail to

cject HD image quality discs.

Warning on copyright

Tele',,ision programs, fihns, videotapes, and other materials may be

copyrighted. Unauthorized recording of such materials may be contrary to theprovisions of the copyright laws.

No compensation for damaged content or recording failure

Charging the battery pack

Insert the battery pack into thebattery charger.

Memory card that you can useThe follovdng memory cards are compatible with this camera: "Memory StickPRO Duo" media, "Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo" media, "Memory Stick

Duo" media, SD memory card and SDHC memory card. MultiMediaCardcannot be used.

In this manual, the term "Memory Stick Duo" media is used to refer to"Memory Stick PRO Duo" media, "Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo" media and

"Memory Stick Duo" media.

For recording movies, it is recommended that you use a"Memory Stick Duo" media of 1 GB or larger marked with:

Cleaning the LCD screen

Wipe the screen suHace with an LCD clemling kit (sold separ_tely) to remove

fingerprints, dust, etc.

Cleaning the lens

Wipe the lens with _1sofl cloth to remove fingerprints, dust, etc.

Cleaning the camera surface

(?lean the camer_ surface with a sof1 cloth slightly moistened with water, then wipe

the surf_ce with a dry cloth. To prevent damage to the finish or casing:

Do not expose the camera to chemical products such as thinner, benzine, alcohol,

disposable cloths, insect repellent, sunscreen or insecticide.

Do not touch the camera with any of the above on your hand.

On operating temperaturesYour camera is designed for use under the temperatures between 0°C and 40°C

(32°F and 104°F). Shooting in extremely cold or hot places that exceed this range is

not recommended.

On the internal rechargeable backup battery

This camer;i has an internal rechargeable batte D for maintaining the date and time

and other settings regardless of whether the power is on or off.

This rechargeable battery is contimmlly charged as long as you are using the camera.

However, if you use the camera fk_r only short periods, it discharges gradually, and if

you do not use the camera at all for about one month it becomes completely

discharged. In this case, be sure to charge this rechargeable battery befk_re using the

camera.

However, even if this rechargeable battery is not charged, you can still use the

camera, but the date and time will not be indicated.

Charging method of the internal rechargeable backup battery

Acerca de los archivos de base de datos

Cuando inserla una tarjeta de memoria sin archi'_,o de base de datos en la

posible que lleve alg6n tiempo hasta que pueda realizar la siguiente operaci6n.

Notas sobre la grabaeion/reproducei6n

• Para asegurar operaciones corrcctas de la tarjeta de memoria, le

recomendamos que utilice esta c_hnara para formatear cualquier tarjeta dememoria que vaya a utilizar con esta c_imara por primera vez. Tenga en

cuenta que al formatear se borrar_in todos los datos grabados en la tarjeta de

memoria. Estos datos no se pueden recuperar. Aseg6rese de hacer una copiade seguridad de cualquier dato importante en un PC u otro lugar deahnacenaje.

• Si graba/elimina imfigenes repetidamente, podr_i producirse unafragmentaci6n de datos en la tarjeta de memoria. Es posible que las pelfculas

no se puedan guardar o grabar. En tal caso, guarde sus im_igenes en un PC uotro lugar de ahnacenamiento, despuds [Formatear].

• Antes de comenzar a grabar, haga una grabacidn a modo de prueba paraasegurarse de que la cdmara est_i funcionando correctamente.

• La c_hnara no estfi hecha a prueba de polvo, ni a prueba de salpicaduras, ni aprueba de agua. Lea "Precauciones" (p_igina 26) antes de utilizar la cfimara.

• Evite exponer la cfimara al agua. Si entra agua dentro de la cfimara, podr_i

ocurrir un real funcionamiento. En algunos casos, la c_imara no podr_i serreparada.

• No dirija la c_imara hacia el sol ni hacia otras luces intensas. Podrfi ocasionarun real funcionamiento de la cfimara.

• No utilice la c_hnara cerca de un lugar que genere ondas de radio fuertes o

emita radiaci6n. De 1o contrario, es posible que la c_imara no pueda grabar oreproducir im_igenes correctamente.

Sin embargo, es posible que aparezcan algunos puntos dimiuutos negros y/obrillantes (blancos, rojos, azules o verdes) en la pantalla LCD. Estos puntos

son un resultado nomml del proceso de fabricacidn, y no afectan a lagrabaci6n.

• Si salpica agua u otros lfquidos a la pantalla LCD y se moja, sequeiumediatamente la pantalla con un patio suave. Los lfquidos dcjados en la

superficie de la pantalla LCD pueden perjudicar la calidad y ocasionar unreal funcionamiento.

Por favor, utilize azzesorios Sony genuinos

Si utiliza accesorios fabricados por compatifas distintas dc Sony, podr:iocasionar un problema en la c_hnara.

• La utilizacidn de fundas de cfimara de otros fabricantes con imanes podr_iocasionar un problema de suminism_ de alimentacidn.

Acerca de la temperatura de la camara

La c_hnara y la baterfa pueden calentarsc debido a una utilizaci6n continua,pero esto no es un defccto de funcionamiento.

Acerca de la proteccion contra el recalentamiento

Dcpendiendo de la temperatura de la c_hnara y de la baterfa_ es posible quc nopueda grabar pelfculas o que la alimentacidn sc desconectc autom_iticamentc

Acerca de la compatibilidad de los datos de imagen

• Esta c_hnara miliza MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 High Profile para grabaci6n enformato AVCHD.

Las pel/culas grabadas en formato AVCHD con esta cfimara no se puedenreproducir con los siguientes dispositivos.

• Los discos grabados con calidad de imagen HD (alta definicidn) se pueden

reproducir solamente en dispositivos compatibles con el limnato AVCHD.Los reproductores o grabadoras basados en DVD no pueden repmducir

discos de calidad de imagen HD, porque son incompatibles con el formatoAVCHD. Adem_is, es posible que los reproductores o grabadoras basados en
