{PROFILE}
To design economic and sustainable solutions to improve and enhance ‘quality of life’ motivates and drives me. I hope to use my creative and technical skills to contribute positively to the growth and development of a
company.
Having over 5 years commercial experience working in both large and small-scale organisations, where I have been given the opportunity to lead and deliver projects from bespoke one-offs to mass manufactured products in
the 10s of 1000s.
I thrive working to strict figures and tight delivery schedules, I enjoy working closely with suppliers to maintain strong working relationships, and I have the ability to interpret a client’s brief to match reality with expectation.
I strive to bring my personal values and work ethnic to influence my professional life, and believe that living in an age of global activity, requires an individual who will dynamically seek to utilise their skills to actively collaborate with individuals from varied disciplines and organisations to find solutions in
an increasingly progressive world.

{CAREER}
HOWDENSINDUSTRIAL DESIGNER
As an Industrial Designer I am responsible to present for selection, and deliver new kitchen ranges for one of the largest kitchen manufacturers in the UK. Preparing potential new ranges for selection requires a technical understanding of industrial production methods, which can deliver the design intention at the right cost, with the right availability, and to the right quality. Being actively involved at each stage

delivering leadership and management training in the workplace. The course was devised to help shape the next generation of leaders within the company teaching them fundamental skills in adaptive leadership, project management, people management and
communication.
Resulting in a written report on leadership styles, followed by a live 6-month business project. The project focused on ‘Speed to Market’ a fundamental element in the mission statement of the business. Our group of 3 put together options for short, medium and long-term improvement. Of which the short-term options had already been implemented, due to the initiative of the group when engaging
key stakeholders during the project.

LEADERSHIP
Leadership is more than a position; it is an attitude to problems, solutions, and to challenges. It is about bringing options to the table, and not expecting them to be there
waiting for you.
Leading projects requires clear direction when engaging other departments or asking
for support.
Vision to deliver and inspire is key to bringing people on board a project and to see it
through to completion.
These experiences have been gained from the ILM3 training, and fundamentally while delivering various projects; from delivering new kitchen ranges into stock in over 500 stores Internationally, to specific suites of
furniture for key clients.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Having managed and lead a variety of different projects; from bespoke furniture for Steelcase, News International, Herman Miller, Virgin Media, Cambridge University and Goldman Sachs. To large volume production of furniture ranges, consisting of 70+ SKUs, up to 80,000 pieces for stock in 500+ stores
internationally.
I have developed strong abilities to work under strict deadlines, clear communication,
setting briefs and working to them.
Delivering on time to public commitment requires the ability to think laterally, adaptively, dynamically and pragmatically, to creatively find economic solutions to complex
problems.
Delivering a successful project is rarely done without issues, and even more rarely with extra time. Knowing when to delegate, ask for support, and responsible escalation, can be the difference between success and failure.
WORKING WITH SUPPLIERS
The balance between utilising a supplier’s knowledge and experience, whilst maintaining the expectation of the business, is critical to achieving a product that performs and looks
the part.
Clarity from the beginning of a project, keeping the end goal in mind, with a flexible and adaptive attitude, is key to successful
delivery.
Working with budgets exceeding the million £ mark has required the skill to push without
being afraid, whilst still listening to genuine concerns.
Maintaining a working relationship with mutual respect has been essential, without which projects could be left at a high risk of
costly failure.
WORKING WITH CLIENTS
Understanding the needs and wants of a client is no simple task. Balancing what they are trying to achieve within budget constraints, requires effective communication skills and transparency to deliver in line with their expectations to ensure client satisfaction
and repeat custom.
GLOBAL & COMPETITOR AWARENESS
Regularly attending relevant exhibitions and trade fairs to maintain knowledge of key trends, technologies and products is essential for good design practice as well as having a strong commercial and global awareness of key competitors and current
market trends.
I have a genuine interest and desire to learn and keep abreast of social, environmental and future issues, as I believe this is fundamental in designing for a better future, to move forward progressively and to be at
the cutting edge in design and business.
R&D
Research and development is critical to understanding the answer to ‘what next?’ Working for a time, as part of a young energetic team, unconstrained by normal commercial and industrial practices, offered
the opportunity to develop these skills.
Whether the research was with an application in mind or just exploratory, the time dedicated to this ensured we were able to raise our view above the day-to-day activities of the department, and have an answer to the question, ‘so what comes
next?’.
TRENDS
Maintaining a sound knowledge of past, present, and future trends is key to delivering marketable product solutions. Attending exhibitions, graduate shows, commercial, national and international furniture fairs provides a wide spectrum of influence and
direction.
Understanding which trends are appropriate
for business and industry is critical. Depending on the core business strategies, different trends require developing into different product solutions, and knowing what not to pursue and why, is as important
as what should be.
COMMINICATION & INTERPERSONAL
Strong professional written, and oral communication skills, obtained from frequent delivery of presentations to both
small and large groups.
I was chosen to represent GMcKay Designs at the UK SolidWorks 2011 Launch, to deliver an engaging and coherent presentation of
the software 3D Via.
From leading International supplier engagement on new large scale projects, to teaching English in Nepal, I have acquired strong interpersonal skills, enabling me to communicate and converse with individuals from various social, cultural and professional
backgrounds.
TEAM PLAYER & INITIATIVE
Able to work well independently, having to use own initiative to deal with various tasks but can also work flexibly and co-operatively as a member of the team. The experience of working within a team-based culture involved planning, organisation, listening,
and commitment.
TIME MANAGEMENT & MULTI-TASKING
Good time management and organisational skills demonstrated by continuously meeting critical deadlines, whilst managing a multitude of tasks simultaneously and ensuring that the tasks are carried out to a
meticulous standard.
TECHNICAL DRAWING& CONCEPT SKETCHING
My career in industry has honed my drawing skills, from hand sketches for a concept, or more detailed for technical clarity, to full technical drawings for component parts and assemblies, the ability to communicate visually with clarity is essential. I have also developed strong 3D rendering skills and an understanding of G-Code for CNC machines.
