Drums For One & All Playshop Join Dave Curry from Drums For One & All for a fun and educational workshop that will show you the basics of how to play hand drums and hand percussion as part of a group ensemble. Dave will show you the fundamentals of how to get a good sound out of the most common types of hand drums and then will lead the group through a series of exercises that will teach simple rhythms from various cultural traditions. Best of all, we get to enjoy a shared musical experience without years of training and practicing. In just a couple of hours, we can be playing together in rhythm with a wide variety of different instruments. But there's so much more going on than just drumming! At the same time, we learn about tuning our attention to support the group dynamics, and how to align our intentions so that everyone gets the satisfaction of contributing in a meaningful way. The workshop assumes no prior experience with hand drumming and invites both adults and younger people down to the age of 10 to participate. You're welcome to bring your own hand drums and percussion instruments if you have them, or you can borrow from the many instruments that Dave will provide. Friday July 17, 2015 7-9 pm $20 or two class cards ages 10-110! Dave Curry is the creator of Drums For One & All, the name he uses for all his hand drumming activities, which include facilitating public drum circles, teaching private lessons, giving performances, doing drum repairs, and leading workshops for schools, churches, colleges and other organizations. Since 2001, Dave has hosted the monthly FreeDrum (freestyle drum and dance) and SpiritDrum (meditative drumming and chanting) events in the Metrowest region of Massachusetts. Dave is co- creator of the annual Eastern Mass Rhythm Festival, which is now entering its 11th season, and he offers a monthly hand drumming workshop series called DrumLore.
