Drumlin Farm Field Trip

Page 2: Drumlin farm field trip presentation

Why we’re going…

To culminate our unit studying farms and how they relate to us, we are taking a trip to a real working farm so students will be able to experience farm life for themselves first-hand.

They will get to see how the animals are

raised, what farmers do while on the farm, and how they are all a lot like us!

What Drumlin Farm has to offer…

Students can explore a real, working farm and wildlife sanctuary all in one.

They can touch, smell, hear, see and even TASTE things while they are exploring the farm…with close adult supervision and with guidance from experienced farmers and naturalists, of course.

Students can…

Visit the farm animals and wildlife animals in their homes at the farm.

We will be visiting sheep, goats, chickens, pigs, cows, and a pony, all in their own rustic barns. Farmers will be on hand to offer information and answer any questions we have.

Students can…Try their green thumb out in the Learning Garden.

We will get a chance to explore the Farm’s garden where we can climb inside a tent of beans, taste fresh mint off the stem, and learn about vegetables in a hands-on way.

Students can…

Learn about farms andMassachusetts wildlife at the drop-in learning activity stations.

There are Drumlin Farm experts all around the Farm that offer drop-in discovery activities. Here we can learn more about the nature of Massachusetts and farm life.

Students can…

Even take a hayride!

We will get to hop on a good old-fashioned hayride around the farm yard during our time here. A farmer will take us around the farm to show us the sites from a different perspective.

Post field trip…

After the field trip, students will complete a KWL chart (Know, Want to know, Learned) that we worked together in the days leading up to the field trip.

Students will fill in the ‘Learned’ column with the most interesting they learned on the field trip.

Each student will also create their own page that will be part of a class scrap book from the trip. They will write one to two sentences about their favorite thing they learned while at the farm, with a picture to accompany it.
