Prescription Pills:a licensed medicine that is regulated by legislation to require a medical prescription before it can be obtained. The term distinguishes it from over-the-counter drugs because those can be obtained without a prescription

Statistics• About 5,000 youth under the age of 21 die from motor vehicle
accidents, other unintentional injuries, homicides, and suicides…all of which include alcohol consumption
• 1,900- motor vehicle crashes• 1,600- homicides• 300- suicide • 200- unintentional injuries
• More than 40% of children who tried alcohol before the age of 15 became alcoholics later in life

Street Drugs:a substance that is purchased from a drug dealer; it can be a legal substance but being used for the wrong reasons and sold without a prescription; it can be illegal to posses

Drug Short-Term Effects Long-Term Effects
Heroin Feeling of euphoria, dry mouth, heavy arms & legs
Infection of heart lining, liver & kidney disease, skin infections
Cocaine Paranoia, mood swings, anxiety, dilated pupils
Kidney failure, stomach ulcers, restricts blood flow, heart disease
Meth Body weakness, decreased appetite, insomnia, anxiety
Violent behavior, psychotic behavior, hallucinations, paranoia
Marijuana Sleepiness, bloodshot eyes, increased heart rate, dry mouth and throat, anxiety and panic attacks
Increased cancer risks, needing more of the drug to get higher because you become immune to small amounts, lower fertility rates
