Drug Mechanism of Action Indication Contraindication Reaction Nursing Responsibilities Generic Name:Amlodipine

Brand Name:Norvasc

Classification:Calcium Channel Blockers

Dosage: 5mg

Route: IVTT

Frequency: PRN

Form: Tablet

Color:

block the transport of calcium into the smooth muscle cells lining the arteries of the heart (coronary arteries) and other arteries of the body. Since the action of calcium is important for muscle contraction, blocking calcium transport relaxes arterial muscles and expands (dilates) coronary arteries and other arteries of the body. By dilating coronary arteries, amlodipine increases the flow of blood to the heart and is useful in preventing heart pain (angina) resulting from reduced flow of blood to the heart caused by coronary artery spasm (contraction).

Norvasc is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, to lower blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular events, primarily strokes and myocardial infarctions.

Norvasc contraindicated for Difficulty having a Bowel Movement, Severe Narrowing of the Aortic Heart Valve, Severely Low Blood Pressure, Severe Liver Disease

.

Dizziness

Headache Edema

Nausea

*Check the Vital sign of the client specially the BP rate
