Infrastructure Focus: Bridges• Pennsylvania has over 25,000 state owned bridges, third most in US 1

• Average age of the bridges are over 50 years 1

• Nearly 20% of the those are “deficient” 2

• PA has invested $370 million to repair/replace 1050 bridges in the last 5 years 1

• Nationwide there are over 607,000 bridges on the National Bridge Inventory• 55,710 of these bridges were found to be deficient 2

• In addition to repair/replace, thorough and efficient inspection must take place

Future• BrIM – Bridge Information Management

• Often ends at CAD delivery after construction• Bentley OpenBridge Modeler

Future• Governing bodies will accept hybrid UAV & traditional inspection• Cloud based 3D tools must become more robust• Governing agencies will use 3D structure views to track and share inspection

information

• Automated inventory techniques, including LiDAR• Location services around infrastructure must improve• Data security crucial for agency buy-in
