Decreased Revenue• Delayed product time to market• Slow RFP responses• Lacking agility to react to competition

Increased Costs• Late-stage design changes are common• Siloed workflows lead to internal friction and

rework• Increasingly complex designs without

Penumbra EngineeringGenerative Design allows for unprecedented design freedom, improving product performance

Challenge

Penumbra needed to develop an ultrasonic device that could withstand extreme environmental conditions and be both lightweight and balanced to ensure proper stability and ease of use for technicians in the field.

Solution

Generative design technology gave Penumbra the ability to quickly explore multiple design solutions to solve this complex challenge. The team ran several studies to arrive at a solution that could be produced with additive manufacturing, minimized and equally balanced the weight of the device for ease of use and ergonomic benefit all while maximizing stiffness to ensure durability.
