Thank you for organizing a food drive to help feed the hungry in NorthTexas! Through your food drive, you're helping to end hunger right herein our community. Take a few minutes to look over this handbook. We hope the ideas andtips you find here will help you make your food drive a success! The food you collect throughout your food drive will soon end up on thetable of someone in need. It will provide more than a meal; for thathungry child, senior or family who has wondered where their next mealwill come from, it means hope! While coordinating a food drive can behard work, we hope you remember the impact you're making in the livesof those in need. Because of people like you whohave committed their time andenergy to fight hunger, the NorthTexas Food Bank is able to provideaccess to meals everydayto those in need! Who, What, When, Where & How

Whether you have a team of people coordinating the drive, or you're taking thelead, your first step is to develop a plan of action for your food drive. Review thishandbook, then determine: WHO? - Who will be the host organization or group, if any? - Who will be in charge of planning and coordinating? This person will beresponsible for registering your drive and communicating with the NTFB CFD Team. WHAT? - What are your goals? - Do you want to base your goals on number of items collected? - Do you want to base your goals on amount of pounds collected? - Do you want to host a focused food drive? Focused food drives are focused onone item from our Most Needed Items List. WHEN? - When do you want your food drive to begin and end? - Do you want the food collected to go to people on a specific holiday? If so, planto host your food drive a few months in advance of your preferred holiday. Thefood you collected needs to be dropped off at least six weeks prior to the holiday.It may take a few weeks to sort, box, inventory, and distribute once we'vereceived your generous donation. WHERE? - Where will your collection boxes be located? - Are they easily accessible or visible? HOW? - How will you get the food you collected to the food bank?

It is not required to use NTFBCanned Food Drive Boxes. You canuse your own boxes andcontainers. To maximize ourresources, we are unable to deliverboxes. If you choose to use NTFB CannedFood Drive Boxes, then you canpick boxes up from our H-E-BCanned Food Drop Off Door atPerot Family Campus in Plano. The H-E-B Door is located atthe front of our building to theright of our front doors. Ringthe door bell and someone willbe able to assist you. Healthy bodies and minds require nutritious meals to thrive! Currently 94% of all food items distributed by the North Texas Food Bank areidentified as "nutritious" by Feeding America. We encourage our food donors togive the most nutritious items whenever possible to ensure we are contributing tothe good health of those we serve, and to help us to reach our goal of 100%nutritious food distributed. Please note:

*Policies set forth by Feeding America prohibit NTFB from accepting expired babyfood or formula collected through Canned Food Drives.

Canned Fruit• Cans between 15-16 oz• No glass containers• Pop tops preferred but notnecessary• Light syrup preferred but notnecessary• un-opened, un-used• Consider a variety of fruits• Any type of sliced, chunks,halved, or whole pieces of fruit isgood• Any brand is good- picture isjust example.• Our volunteers will checkquality of expiration/best by datesand seals of each can.

Shelf Stable Milk• Shelf stable is food that can be safely stored atroom temperature in a sealed container.• No milk requiring refrigeration for storing.• 8 oz containers• No glass containers• Must be whole milk, Lowfat, 1%, or 2%• No flavored milk like chocolate, vanilla, etc• un-opened, un-used• Any brand is good- picture is just example.• Our volunteers will check quality of expiration/best by dates and seals of each milk.

Dropping Off Your Donation Once your food drive has wrapped up, you can drop off at our H-E-BCanned Food Drop-Off Door at our Perot Family Campus. Address:3677 Mapleshade Ln.Plano, TX 75075 Hours of Operation:Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PMSaturdays from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The H-E-B Door is located at the front of our building to the right ofour front doors. Ring the door bell and someone will be able to assistyou. Remember to request for a receipt.

Can we arrange for NTFB to pick up our food drive?NTFB can arrange to pick up your donation if your food drive collected morethan eight full NTFB Food Drive boxes. If your food drive meets this minimum,then we will assist with the logistics. To save limited resources, our drivers work to incorporate food drive pick-upsinto their normal food distribution routes. Because of this, in most cases wecan accomodate pick-ups Monday - Friday between 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. If minimum is met, we are able to pick up from any location in our 13 countyservice area: Collin, Dallas, Delta, Denton, Ellis, Fannin, Grayson, Hopkins, Hunt,Kaufman, Lamar, Navarro, and Rockwall.

What if I cannot drop off and we collected less than 8 NTFB Food DriveBoxes?We will work with you to ensure your generous donation makes it to ourhungry neighbors. Please contact the NTFB Canned Food Drive Team byemailing [email protected] or call 214-270-1996.

Raising Funds During Your Food Drive

Did you know you can also incorporate your own online fundraiser duringyour Canned Food Drive? Just start an online fundraiser! You can share yourfundraising page through your social media networks or via email to get yourfriends and family involved. Encourage those who can't drop off food for thedrive to make a monetary donation instead. And remember each dollar youraise will provide access to three meals for those in need in our community!

Frequently Asked QuestionsDoes NTFB host canned food drives? While NTFB is happy to provide supportduring your Canned Food Drive, because of limited resources NTFB relies oncommunity members like you to promote and coordinate the logistics ofcommunity canned food drives. What support can NTFB provide for my canned food drive? NTFB can provideboxes, printable posters/flyers, social media graphics, and best practices to makeyour drive a success. NTFB can arrange a pick up if your drive collected more than8 full NTFB Food Drive boxes. If I live outside of Dallas County, can I still host a canned food drive for NTFB? Yes!NTFB serves 13 counties (Dallas, Denton, Collin, Grayson, Fannin, Lamar, Delta,Hopkins, Hunt, Rockwall, Kaufman, Ellis, and Navarro). If you live in one of thesecounties, we are able to provide support for your Canned Food Drive. If you do notlive in one of these counties, please visit FeedingAmerica.org to learn which foodbank serves your community. I want the food I collect to go to people on a specific holiday (i.e. Thanksgiving,Christmas); when do I need to host my canned food drive? You would need tohost your food drive a few months in advance. The food you collected needs to bedropped off at least six weeks prior to the holiday. It may take a few weeks forNTFB to sort, box, inventory, and distribute the food you collected once we havereceived it. That being said, hunger is a year-round issue and the food you collectwill help many people in need regardless of the season; so, we encourage you tohost a food drive at any time of the year. Do I need to communicate with anyone from NTFB prior to hosting a canned fooddrive? If you would like your canned food drive to benefit NTFB, we ask that youreview the Canned Food Drive Handbook and register your drive with us so we areable to best support you. Where can we pick up canned food drive boxes? Boxes are available for pick up atour Perot Family Campus: 3677 Mapleshade Lane, Plano TX 75075. Hours ofoperation are Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and on Saturdays from 8:30AM to 3:30 PM. Can I request that NTFB deliver canned food drive boxes to me? No.Unfortunately, due to limited resources, we cannot deliver boxes. Remember, youcan use your own boxes or containers.

Does NTFB accept non-food donations? To ensure efficiency in our fooddistribution operations, please do not include any donations of clothing,personal hygiene products, or household items within your canned food driveitems. If you have collected these items, we encourage you to donate them to anearby clothing distribution center. What items are not accepted? Because of safety standards set by FeedingAmerica, we cannot accept baby foods and formulas, anything in glasscontainers or persihable food items such as fresh or frozen meats, fresh orfrozen produce, dairy products, ice-cream, etc. Additional Food Drive Resources Feeding America - How to Donate Food Create the Good
