When you need us, we’re equipped to work with any product you already have on-site and can send over a drilling fluid expert who has experience in your particular application.

Our support: We’re on call 24-7 and can be on your job-site as soon as you need us. When we’re not working on a project, we’re getting trained up on new drilling fluid programs and trying to find ways to apply these to your job-site to make your job run smoother and quicker than you thought possible.

We’ll put together fluid programs based on Geo-technical reports and crunch the hard numbers for you, showing volumes needed to complete the job. We take into account factors such as geological problems you may encounter, fluid loss, how many possible ream passes needed, and underground water dilution if possible.

At the client’s request we can send out an engineer to overview the project, to make sure the start-up is going well and troubleshoot any foreseeable problems.

When drillers seek a higher level of experience and performance on their job-site, there’s only one choice:

• High speed rail project

• Foundation shafts were 12’ (144 inch) diameter and between 110-165 feet deep

• Slurry consulting completed due to heavy sands and cobble in ground conditions

• Interstate 57 highways project

• Pipe was 36”, final hole size was 48” and 2200’ long

• Ground consisted of limestone and fractures of glacial till (clay)

• Developed custom slurry program to successfully drill through highly reactive clay

• Highway 215 overpass for Alabama DOT

• First time slurry was used on an Alabama DOT project

• Foundation shafts were 5’ (60 inch) and 97’ deep

• Prior to contacting DFS, the original plan was to drill shafts dry. During the initial drilling, groundwater and more sand than was expected was encountered, causing the hole to cave in. The driller spent 2 weeks on one shaft trying to drill dry.

• After contacting DFS, an analysis was conducted of the ground conditions, and a custom slurry program was developed. This allowed the drillers to finish one shaft per day and get the project back on schedule.

Fluid to Soil RatioThe fluid to soil ratio is very important. The soil encountered must be put into aflowable slurry so that the bore is ready to accept the product line. Note: The ratio must be at least 1:1. Changes in soil may cause that ratio to increase.

> Non-problematic/non-reactive soils, rock 2:1

> Sand, gravel, cobble, and rock mixed with clay 2-3:1

> Clay or reactive shale 3-5:1
