CONTRACT VALUE: £135,000

This project involved upgrading a 1.25km long existing track and footpath between the villages of Dreghorn and Springside in North Ayshire. The upgraded track was a combination of both new sections and widening & overlay of the existing path, to deliver a 3m wide, surfaced finish on a Type-1 sub-base overlying a geotextile membrane. Starting at Overtoun Road, Springside in the East the path travels west to Towerlands Road, Dreghorn where it connects with a series of existing footpaths. At each connection/access point, new barriers, bollards and signage improve the safety and accessibility for users and the increased width and improved surface is eminently suitable for pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users alike. The main section of the works was accessible only from either end which required careful coordination of plant movements and excavated/imported infill materials, with traffic and pedestrian management required at connections to existing roads and footpaths.

Environmental considerations included preservation of the trees and bushes which lined much of the route.
