Smart, but DifferentHigh quality, engaging Honors academics help you develop and practice the skills necessary to succeed at your four-year transfer school and build a foundation for career success.

Honors classes are designed for critical thinking—not critical mass. When it comes to developing analytical, collaborative, and problem-solving skills, bigger is not better. American Honors classes at CCS are small, seminar-format courses designed to foster thoughtful, intellectual interaction among like-minded peers—who are just as interested in asking the right questions as they are in finding the right answers. Each class is led by an Honors professor whose focus is to educate, challenge, and engage.

Meet Our StudentsWhile American Honors at CCS students come from diverse backgrounds, they all share a common ambition: to earn their bachelor’s degree from a great four-year school, for less.

Robbie Transferred to University of Washington in Fall 2013

A good student who had always balanced part-time jobs with school,Robbie says he always knew he had big dreams, he just didn’t know how to fulfill them. When a teacher nominated

Robbie to apply to American Honors at CCS, he found out how he could follow his dreams and dream bigger than ever before. With

the support of his Honors professors and advisors, Robbie got accepted to his top choice transfer school, the University of Washington, where he’s majoring in business marketing.

Hanna Transferred to Mount Holyoke College in Fall 2015

Hanna decided to become a doctor when she was 13, and had every step planned out by 16. She did well in high school, got into a good college, and had enough scholarship awards to

pay most of her tuition. But then, “life happened.” Family and financial issues kept her out of college for five years. When she

started classes again with American Honors at CCS, she was more committed than ever to earning her degree. She learned how to become a self-advocate, how to navigate higher education, and most importantly, how to realize her full potential. Now, she’s studying biology at Mount Holyoke and back on track to becoming a doctor.

“Having a lot of guidance in American Honors prepared me for the four-year. Now, I look at a list of classes and know what to take. I can do it independently. It taught me how to self-advocate.”

with ambition

Molly Transferred to Whitworth University in Fall 2014

Molly dreamed of studying biology—and she wouldn’t settle for anything less than an elite pre-med program. She knew she could do it academically, but funding her college dreams was a different story. She joined American Honors at CCS and worked with her Honors advisor to find scholarship opportunities and create the best possible transfer application. Now, she’s studying at one of the top private universities in Washington with almost $80,000 in scholarships.

Russell Transferred to Georgetown University in Fall 2013

Russell started at CCS with a plan to transfer to finish his bachelor’s degree. But, his plan only included a few universities he thought he could easily get into. With the help of his Honors advisor, Russell learned that he could dream bigger. Now that he knew just how far he could go, he applied to some of the best schools in the country. And once he got in, Russell found that his time in American Honors at CCS prepared him to excel in his classes at, and graduate from, his transfer school—Georgetown University.

PouyaTransferred to University of Rochester in Fall 2015

Pouya was the first person in his family to come to the U.S. His academic achievements helped him get a student visa, but fitting in was a different challenge. Luckily, in American Honors at CCS, Pouya found his second family. He quickly found friends in his Honors classes, and his Honors advisor helped him narrow his transfer school list down from 30 to just a select few. Now, Pouya is studying astrophysics on a full ride scholarship at the University of Rochester, with plans to someday work for NASA.

WinTransferred to Rutgers University in Fall 2014

Win came to Spokane from China with plans to transfer to a four-year university. With American Honors at CCS, she was able to realize her full potential—her advisor helped her choose the right classes and create a plan to transfer to a top university. She got more than she bargained for when she was accepted to Rutgers, Purdue, Smith, Mount Holyoke, and Illinois Institute of Technology. Her final choice? She’s currently a nuclear physics major and research assistant at Rutgers, with plans to pursue a Ph.D.
