I traveled the road of dreams and did notknow that it would come to an end but Ibelieved it would extend and always startagain, and by its nature never dieor be detained. Dreams are not foreclosures,bankruptcies, they're not bad deals behind doorswhen economies decline, liberties abort,and successes judged by tallies of war.How many of what origin are killedin a day, how proud and patrioticis death's banner? On December 18, 2010, efforts to pass the

DREAM Act in the Senate were once againblocked. I am deeply disappointed that we haveonce again turned our backs on some of our bestand brightest young people who grew up inAmerica, love America, and want to serveAmerica.

I was proud to be a co-sponsor of this importantbill that would have allowed an individual to

qualify for legal status if he or she had lived inthe United States for at least five years,graduated from high school, completed two yearsof college or two years of service in the U.S.armed forces, and demonstrated strong moralcharacter.

Each year, thousands of immigrant students withgood grades are denied college admissionbecause of their immigration status. Most ofthese young people had no choice in the matter,having come to the United States with theirparents at an early age and spent a significantportion of their lives living in America. The

DREAM Act would have given these students areal shot at the American dream by providing

them with a pathway to legalize theirimmigration status.

I commend the brave young men and women whohave stepped forward at great personal risk tocall America's attention to this injustice. Beassured I will not rest until the DREAM Act is thelaw of the land.
